Re: The GOLD scream room
I bet Harry Browne didn’t have a solution to this one. I would really like to buy a bunch of gold tomorrow but i don’t think I’m going to be in town to take delivery. At least it’s possible that I won’t be. No way am I leaving it to the wife to receive it. It’s not that she’s flaky, but if somethin...

Re: Whatever happened to BLM and ANTIFA?
Did those orgs just disappear? Is there any evidence they're still around other than a few BLM signs or pins? Was it just the communists funding these orgs to help oust Trump (along with a vote by mail fraud scheme)? Antifa is still busing burning Portland down every night. It just doesn't make the...

Re: Long Term Care Insurance (revisited)
In the high rise condo area of Cartagena Colombia I would see tons of oldsters (expats?) being wheeled through the parks and waterfront by cute 20 year old gals. The gals would meet up and gossip and feed pudding to their charges and carry on. I got the feeling it would be about as inexpensive and d...

Wellesley (non-global) is a wonderful fund. For a long time, I’ve been tempted to employ a vp of my select indy dividend stocks with VCIT (Vanguard intermediate corporate bond etf) as a kind of homemade wellesley. Wellesley and a little bit of gold is about as simple as it gets. I'm working with a ...

You know you've found a field of endeavour you're genuinely interested in when you continue to read the textbook after your courses are done. There's a whole swathe of material we didn't cover such as the use of special purposes registers that enable SSE and AVX extensions. Super interesting stuff!...

Re: Volcker
I think even Volcker commented that there was no way rates could be raised like they were. The federal budget to service the debt would destroy the government. The market crash would potentially leave seventy million people retiring in abject poverty with an epic stock market crash (401ks and pensi...

Re: The US digital dollar
While I don’t have any evidence that this is what is going on, the digital dollar feels very much like the US Treasury is evaluating bitcoin as a threat and pondering adopting the tried and true Microsoft strategy of Embrace, Extend and Extinguish. Which proved incredibly effective.

Re: The US digital dollar
I've been intrigued by the discussions. I'm looking forward to see how and if it moves forward. While the digital dollar would certainly not be a replacement for folding money (Or any other truly anonymous transaction) it seems like it could be a large improvement over USD debit cards or other elect...

Re: Gold Coin Supply/Demand
I didn’t specifically ask for 2021s; that’s just what the dealer had in stock. If the vast majority of bullion coins in circulation are from previous years, I wonder why I was given a 2021 both times. Just an interesting coincidence, maybe? My first thought was that maybe no one is selling and the ...

Re: I think it’s time to move into crypto
That begs the question...at what price does mining bitcoin become a losing proposition? What happens if miners can't turn a profit? I'm sorry. I'm a pedant. This sort of stuff horrifies me. "begging the question" is a bad translation of "assuming the conclusion" NOT "suggesting the question". Carry...

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is an excellent movie. The sequel, not so much. The recasting of the two main characters had me salty in particular. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara were such a great pair. The Swedish versions were all excellent. I liked the American ones, but the Swedes nailed it.

Xan, so watch the BelangP YT VLOG and he said something that I found interesting. He said unlike an Equity Share, which is "first in first out" with regard to sales, a Gold Bullion sale can be conducted with you highest Cost Basis Coin, or Bar. So, if you're forced to rebalance this ameliorates the...

Re: COVID Cases Sharply Declining: Why This Is Worst Case Scenario
Just a guess from an uneducated source but if Covid disproportionately affects African Americans as well as other dark-skinned people more than Caucasians it might have much less do to with racism than Vitamin D. Then again, I'm not a politician so what do I know? Vitamin D is a likely factor, but ...

However, my solution is to simply avoid traveling to such places. If they're going to hassle me to such an extent, then they won't get any of my tourism spending. I’m with you there. One factor in favor of delaying or deferring: there will likely be an announcement soon that only one shot is fine if you're low risk. The data suggest that one shot has the same efficacy as two, if you know something about significant differences. i.e. 85% and 95% are indistinguishable when the nu...

Serious question. Given that I'm not worried about catching Covid, and I don't have any business or PR reasons to get vaccinated, is there any incentive at all for someone like me to get jabbed? My takeaway is that Harry Browne's individualism does not necessarily mean complete self interest (read selfishness) to the point of disregard for anyone else. Harry often commented that different people have different utility functions that vary with their time horizons. For someone with a very sh...

I continue to wonder why this topic keeps resurfacing. Dr. Swift's solution to the problem of impoverished Irish families is no less applicable today. Also, low carb.
