Re: Strategically taking a 401k loan and/or no-penalty withdrawal

It seems to allow up to $100,000 to be withdrawn from an IRA or 401(k) with no penalty. Seems that the tax still needs to be paid. Sorry, I don't have a 401(k) and I have no idea how a loan out of one works. I'm just (personally) interested in the no-penalty withdrawal, although it doesn't seem like...

Re: Strategically taking a 401k loan and/or no-penalty withdrawal

In my last company my buddy decided to take a 401k loan to buy a new car ..well the company fell on hard times ,was taken over but the 401k was closed ....he had to pay back the entire loan and could only refinance the car , not at the low rates the factories offered but at a ridiculous rate as a u...

Re: Strategically taking a 401k loan and/or no-penalty withdrawal

Why would I want to take money out of my IRA? Isn't the point to put money into it? I mean, yes, if I need it to live on, which is what this is for. It doesn't seem like a useful tool otherwise.

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Perhaps Nagasaki was reasonably predictible, perhaps not (this is my view especially if you apply the adjective reasonably to the noun predictable).... it was only a couple days later. I seriously doubt they could have evacuated every city in Japan just because they thought another atomic bomb were...

Re: Forum Stuff

No, because we don't have a "forum host". The site is hosted on a Linode, which is an unmanaged virtual server provider. I manage the forum on top of that. That does mean that I'm a single point of failure. It might make sense to establish a Linode account separate from my personal one, and give one...

Re: Shortages caused by refusal to raise prices

I tried to order shelf-stable milk online last week, something like Parmalat. It’s like $26/gallon and doesn’t ship out until the end of April. I didn’t respond by buying extra milk, though. IDK about availability during this insanity, but Carnation makes non-fat dry milk powder. It keeps near-fore...

You could say cold/flu is part of the human herd genome, and like cancer, its so much like us that the immune system has trouble distinguishing it. It'll get worse every year because the population is aging. Even stranger is self/non self with consciousness. Are you the same person you were 10 year...

Lean left another 300 degrees and you will be in good company. ;D
TURN left 300 degrees and you're facing a different direction. LEAN left 300 degrees and you've fallen over.

Re: Did Harry Browne have it wrong?

Should we try to bring some of that back for the sake of employment? Is it just too impractical, and robots are going to do it all anyway? Not just employment, but also security and contingency. That is, China might attack us by building bridges that all fall apart around the same time. Or, some vi...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

That looks like an interesting book, just the kind of thing I like to read. I'll put that on my list. The author, a Puerto Rican immigrant, has another more recent book that also looks interesting called "The Media Versus the Apprentice: The Devil Mr. Trump". Apparently, as a self-declared non-supp...
