Re: Question for original forum members
I do wonder about some of the early members like Wonk, gizmo-rat, 6 iron, WildAboutHarry, et al who seldom post now, or not at all. I want to know if they moved to a different strategy or just got tired of the forum, as the portfolio mostly runs itself. I originally started investing in the PP in 2...

Not sure, but am a little concerned about this whole share exchange. Perhaps I am being a bit paranoid.

Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion
The meeting for GTU shareholders Jan 15 appears to be to discuss terms for the merger/takeover. It appears to be a done deal. Based on this whole experience, I have little difficulty believing that Sprott may make this less than advantageous for GTU owners that hold out.

Re: Sprott Intends to Make Exchange Offers for Central GoldTrust and Silver Bullion
I am undecided whether to sell now and be done with this, or tender my shares to Sprott, then sell them. Either way, I will probably use IAU as the eventual vehicle for this portion of gold. Anyone have a thought?

Have not been on here for a while, but was interested by this thread. I hope you find peace with your new portfolio, budd, but I suspect that will only come when you are at peace enough to not check it so frequently. I cannot tell you how good it feels to be on the every three month plan, and I may ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but I also am struggling with the doctrine of election, particularly as it is described by Paul in Romans 9: 11-13. I was curious how you have found peace with this. I recently finished a bible study of Romans and feel less at ease, and less Calvinist ...

Re: Peeking, and the Permanent Portfolio
The timing of rebalancing is imprecise at best, and the trends that caused the need for rebalancing can always continue, making it impossible to know when is the best time to rebalance. So we use rebalancing bands, but these are guidelines for our own risk tolerance, not crystal balls. In my portfol...

Re: Peeking, and the Permanent Portfolio
It's impossible for me not to look. It's just not gonna happen. I make pretty regular purchases. When I started, I did this, buying the lagging asset with monthly contributions and dividends. I now just put everything in cash/cash equivalents, and make asset purchases no more than a 1-2 times a y...

After reading some powerful angst on the PP=RBD thread, I am reminded of this commitment I made over 3 years ago. For the last year, I have decreased my frequency of portfolio checking to every other month, and next year I am going to quarterly. I cannot begin to tell you how much easier a down yea...

Re: Beard
I tried growing a beard in my early 20's; a pitiful effort, and I assumed that it was not to be. But apparently, the same genes that in later life cause nose and ear hair growth conspired to fill out my beard, because when I tried again in my late 40's, it came in quite full- but mostly gray. I most...

Re: GTU is Trading Below NAV
It seems that the discount pricing for GTU continues; 2.9% at close of market today. While it is less than the 7% discount I last bought at (pats self on back, dislocates shoulder), I notice that the discount for PHYS (Sprott's CEF) has been consistently less. Anyone have a thought as to why?

Thanks for the explanation. That makes a lot of sense. It seems that the availability of physical gold for purchase has to be linked to "paper gold" via comex (and shorts thereof) for this business to exist.

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. Saw it as a 10 or 11 year old, and it has been a lifelong inhibitor for wanting to go to scary movies.
