Re: GRAVITY

Agreed with everyone above.  Best film I've seen in quite a while!

I've generally been skeptical of 3d as anything more than a gimmick but it was perfect for this movie.

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

Here's why it can't be a dream: Todd's ringer.  Think about it.  How could Walt possibly know about the depth and complexity of Todd's feelings for Lydia?  If Walt didn't know about it, how could it be part of a dream he was experiencing? I agree.  Also, how would Walt have known that Jesse was the...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

Interesting, thanks for the info on the watch continuity thing, guys. Lydia was a real piece of garbage.  She dressed and acted sophisticated, but I think that the reason Todd was attracted to her was that she was almost as cold blooded as him.  There is probably some kind of weird parallel between ...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

In comments at the WSJ, someone said that real hit men would just shoot all 3 people and take the cash. I didn't reply -- this subforum is enough Breaking Bad for me -- but my answer to that would be that s/he he is thinking like a hit man. However, s/he is not thinking like the Schwartzes. I'm 100...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

Lone Wolf, You saw that the "hit men" were Badger and Skinny Pete, right? The whole hit men thing was a total bluff that Walt played to perfection. Oh absolutely!  What a treat having those guys make it back for the finale.  I had hoped Saul might somehow make an appearance but never expected Badge...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

I love that Todd's uncle wasn't able to get very far into his "why you shouldn't kill me" speech before Walt finished him off. Me too.  I also enjoyed how in spite of being gutshot by an M60, Uncle Jack took the time to stuff a cigarette in his mouth before commencing with his "If you pull that tri...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

Man, the things that Eliot said during that interview were just perfect to inflame Walt's pride and get him Heisenberged up for the endgame. Todd is the best portrayal of a sociopath I've seen on television. Even his infatuation with Lydia is how I'd envision a sociopath "loving" another human. Yeah...

Re: How many people agree with MR/MT theory described on the forum

I agree with what you're saying. That's true. But, what we meant, specifically, was simply understanding the mechanics of why there is no perceived default risk with Treasury bonds. That's all. A lot of people don't understand those mechanics and think that the government will run out of money. HB ...

Re: How many people agree with MR/MT theory described on the forum

But it is not the tax that gives the money its true value or demand. It is the efficient and accepted mobilization of these resources that gives the money value and helps maintain its demand. Bingo.  One of many, many reasons that MR is a far superior framework to MMT, even if I don't count myself ...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

Bad. I think that it is dawning on him that his form of Bad disease has the peculiar quality of killing all those around you before finally killing you. Yeah, it sure seems that way.  This disease makes a person do things like not take Declan's $5 million. I guess Walt's rapid ascension/expansion t...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

What an episode! I definitely agree that Walt's treatment of Skyler was designed to get her off the hook and, more importantly, leave his children with at least one parent they could still love and respect.  He had to cast her as the victim and himself as the monster to make that work. She comes as ...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

I got a kick out of Todd's phone playing the Thomas Dolby song "She Blinded Me With Science" when he got the call from Walt. I loved that!  :D I think Hank is going to survive, and Todd's uncle and his crew are going to use him as collateral to make Walt cook for them. Yeah, this is where I thought...

Re: Any "Breaking Bad" Fans Here?

I liked the scene where Hank and his wife Marie are watching Walt's "confession" in disbelief. Great scene.  And I loved the awkward tension of the meeting at the Mexican restaurant where Walt delivered the DVD.  I always underestimate how clever and nasty Walt can be, even after all this time. As ...

Great post, Ad!  The very opposite of staring at stock tickers and wondering "what the markets will do this afternoon".  I approve. I actually tried the exercise of picking stocks from the screenshots you provided.  As a jokey, "suicide portfolio" style of choice, I was prepared to announce that Lon...

Re: Post Scarcity Economics

I was a bit surprised by the article's conclusion, since I know that median household incomes have consistently risen in real terms from the late 60s until 2007.  But upon a more careful reading, I see that the article is focusing on the median earning power of male workers rather than household.  T...

Yes. But we're rendering ourselves obsolete. I see this every day as a matter of fact because I write automation software. Six months ago I was indispensable because I was the only person who knew how to run a certain very important system. It was taking up too much of my time so I spent a few week...

Indeed.  I'm having a hard time waiting until Monday when Amazon will let me see episode #2.

The closing scene of episode 1 in Hank's garage was great.  Things have escalated more quickly than I was expecting!

Re: Outrageous AR-15 deal

That's a nice deal, PS!  It's been several years since I built my AR so I haven't looked in a while, but $70 looks like a pretty good price for a lower receiver, too.  Where do you source those?  May have to call up my FFL guy and see whether he's still doing business.  :) Also, what do you like for...

Lately I have been finding myself stuck in dreams, knowing for sure that if I go back to sleep it will continue where it left off. When I read "The Pearl" I was in high school.  Now that I have kids, I think that story would really harsh my Powerball-winning buzz.
