Re: Holding TLT in Vanguard Brokerage Services?

I also hold TLT in my VB account. No problems. Curious though as to what problems there could be. What are your concerns?

Thank you Sophie! I've been so depressed about the I Bond rates of late that I stopped looking. Appreciate your post. Cheers

Re: So much for the "risk-free" nature of Treasuries

Don't think it works to compare the US Govt to a corporation like IBM or Apple. It doesn't create wealth, it can only confiscate and redistribute it. It's a different animal and those comparisons don't work.

STRIPS Question

I'm sure this has been discussed but I couldn't find a thread that addressed it. Would Treasury STRIPS be more effective than the 30yr Bond? And does anyone have STRIPS within their bond allocation?

Re: 2 months old PP, down -3%.

You're upset about a single digit paper decline for a 2 month old portfolio!?!?!?! This can't be serious. If this post is for real I would respectfully say that you really don't understand investment risk and should be in T Bills, CD's and I Bonds. 2 months is a trade, that's not investing.

Re: Oh how it hurts to see no gains

Im surprisingly not concerned about the losses that we are seeing here. Non-action is not an option when it comes to investment. If you are down on the PP, then you must have another plan that you think will work better. That might work for a few months or a year and then it will fail as well...at ...

Re: Oh how it hurts to see no gains

I really don't understand Storm's wondering whether the PP 'works' based on one year of results. People seem to have very naive and unrealistic expectations about portfolio construction and their own tolerance for risk. It's becoming clear to me that people really don't understand investing and shou...

Re: Oh how it hurts to see no gains

I don't mean to be disrespectful but this discussion is incomprehensible to me, it's borderline silly. My PP is 100bps positive ytd but I'm sure folks have different circumstances and could be experiencing a 200bps paper loss. If you can't absorb a 2% paper loss then you should really be in T Bills,...
