Re: FTSE 100 vs All-Shares: does it matter? (UK PP)

How about the SPDR FTSE All Share ETF, Ticker FTAL. Expense ratio 0.2% to track the whole market.

Re: Fidelity reduces tracker fees in the UK

It is difficult to find really cheap Fund Platforms from what I have seen. I like to have some money in funds rather than rely solely on ETF, just for more diversification.

Re: Quarterly vs yearly dividends

I just spoke to Fidelity and got an answer, for their World Index Fund if you are not a holder on the day of the dividend payment you lose the funds ! So that is one to watch. Moving to the income fund will limit a loss in the event of a sale since it pays out four times a year rather than once a ye...

Re: Quarterly vs yearly dividends

Thanks, yes. I own individual bonds and have benefitted from this. Do mutual funds offer the same benefit ?

Re: Quarterly vs yearly dividends

Yes, those are the two funds. The compounding effect is small but I am unclear about the impact of selling the fund before the annual payments, say on month 9. Do you get the prorated share of the final year dividend or lose it all. If you lose it then the income share would be better. I've asked Fi...

Quarterly vs yearly dividends

I've just noticed that the Fidelity World Index tracker fund pays a quarterly dividend for the income fund and an annual dividend for the accumulator fund. The fees for each are the same at 0.13%. Am a better to invest in the income fund to get the quarterly payments even if I reinvest them in the s...

Royal Mint and UK coin tax advantages

Hi all, I found this article highlighting that investments in UK legal tender gold coins are Capital Gains Tax free as they are legal tender. This sounds like a significant advantage for UK Residents to invest their gold in UK coins. Thoughts ? http://www.royalmint.com/aboutus/news/the-royal-mint-la...

Re: New portfolio sense check(UK)

I bought them at 3.95 per transaction, TD direct were offering a special rate, but they offer the same rate as stocks purchases normally, around 10 a transaction. Much cheaper than a Bond ETF, since there are no ongoing charges.

Re: New portfolio sense check(UK)

Hi there, I'm UK based and new to the PP system but it makes a lot of sense to me what you have done. Rather than go for a UK only stock fund, I chose Stock: IWRD as an ETF (45%) Bonds Direct purchase of 30 year UK Gilts (25%), I'd be interested if people think whether even longer dates bonds would ...
