Re: Russell Napier - Global Reshoring Existential Threat to US PP?

So after thinking about this if I were to tweak a US modified PP to Napier's thesis; I am thinking to replace ST & LT bonds with a 10 or 20 yr treasuries ladder (like @seajay suggests), looks like you can get ETFs to mimic that. And I would also perhaps swap out the S&P500 index with somethi...

Re: Russell Napier - Global Reshoring Existential Threat to US PP?

It's obviously not having to do with reality. Since when does policy reflect it? Instead this is a political shift to mandating that which the government thinks is in its interest and as part of the new geopolitical game. Free markets of capital superseded by political protectionism All driven by th...

Re: Russell Napier - Global Reshoring Existential Threat to US PP?

I think the idea is we are past-peak of US exceptionalism and now entering a phase of anti-globalization and multipolarity. As the US weaponizes the dollar, it will be politically desirable for countries to turn inward. In fact, I subsequently listened to an interview where Napier expects USD to per...

Russell Napier - Global Reshoring Existential Threat to US PP?

I have been consuming Russell Napier's content of late. His thesis is largely that 'economic nationalism' is the global trend: i.e. governments are going to push central banks and large institutions to "reshore" their assets under management. He points to examples where for example the UK ...

investment advisers for PP?

I seem to recall an adviser or two on this forum that can help implement a PP. I could not find via search. This is for an entity where it legally needs the SEC's stamp of approval. Ideally would be a for-fee adviser. Would appreciate any leads or if anyone can recall - I seem to remember a firm out...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

I know this is the cardinal sin but anyone else thinking about switching back to PP from GB? I am just having a hard time seeing how stocks are going to perform much better in the upcoming several years in real terms. They'll prob go sideways. Then again, they seem to be doing OK and the world is a...

Steps how to rebalance?

OK basic question here - I seem to have misplaced Craig's book otherwise would look up. On the mechanics of rebalancing. If for example using the 15% or 35% bands and you have an infusion of cash to invest, I believe the book says to first put the money into your cash bucket. Once that bucket hits 3...

Re: THE ALLEGORY OF THE HAWK AND SERPENT

So here is the construction of the 'dragon portfolio' Atermis offers. I am color blind but it looks like ~20% each: - equity-linked -gold -long vol -fixed income -commodity trend So gold seems straight forward. Fixed income would be a diversified bond or dividend paying stock portfolio? What is comm...

Re: Bonds and IRAs

In Craig's PP book it says p245 - tax deferred accounts (401k/IRAs) should be used for lease tax-efficient assets first (those that produce interest and dividends). Assets should go into tax sheltered accounts int he following order: bonds, cash, stocks, gold. Do folks generally agree with that? Com...

Re: Long Term Care Insurance

I have personal experience with policies and have experience in the care-providing business. I don't know what the ROI on some of these policies can be but it does seem like most of the LTCI have gone out of business, those that exist often make it very difficult to bring claims and to reimburse and...

Re: Ray Dalio inspires a risk parity ETF

Interesting. Do you think this might compliment a PP? Seems to have some similar asset allocation. I checked out the Canadian ETF which started in 2016. Not exactly knocking my socks off but short history. https://www.horizonsetfs.com/etf/HRA

Re: focus on income in VP?

I don't have a set strategy on how to use them. Ladder, barbell, coupon, no coupon, it all depends on your needs and wants. I was going to use them alongside Treasuries to provide extra yield on badly "sagged" parts of the yield curve. Would you consider iShares AGZ? or does that get too ...

Re: focus on income in VP?

This seems to make some sense to me. A bit riskier than treasuries (which I already am exposed to in PP) but with a little better yield. Is there a specific strategy to pursue to build a portfolio of agency bonds? Ladder them? Longest term? I did a quick look over at Fidelity secondary market, they ...

focus on income in VP?

It definitely seems HB talks about speculation in the VP. If one is closer to retirement and wanting to bolster their income, do folks have a suggestion for how to assemble a VP that performs that role? Perhaps a blend of CD, annuities, AAA-insured munis or treasuries? Perhaps with a small portion i...
