Re: Starting new portfolio for a child – PP or VTI?
Developed International and Emerging (which is 42% China) ALREADY had their lost decade, actually 14 years. You're running out of the store when things are on sale. Click on this Perfchart and extend the time bar to tthe middle of 2011 (the midst of the European Debt Crisis) to Present Day. https:/...

Re: Starting new portfolio for a child – PP or VTI?
I think for a toddler at Permanent Portfolio and Golden Butterfly are too conservative. But you mention VTI... what would you think as a parent if on 3/28/2035 you look back and find your VTI investment hadn't grown any? US stock overvaluation is such that a "lost decade (or longer)" is a...

Starting new portfolio for a child – PP or VTI?
I am setting up a portfolio for my child (who's still a toddler), and I'm wondering whether I want to invest in the long-term growth of the market (something like VTI or another similar ETF) or get him started with a permanent portfolio. I was considering other approaches (60/40, etc.), but at the e...

Re: Absolutely brutal - 5/5
It’s also fun to try to replicate an HBPP in two components Wellesley and gold OR Wellington and gold. It’s a cool portfolio, but how is that replicating the HBPP? That’s like replicating a pizza with a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. Also a fine dish, but not the same. Gold, Stock, Bonds, Short t...

One spreadsheet to rule them all?
I've been running a PP for over a year now along with some additional investments I've made in different instruments: Industry/geography-targeting ETFs P2P lending (various platforms) I want to unite and track all my investments in one place to understand how they're performing. I tried searching on...

Re: How often should I rebalance when adding money to PP?
I'm so sorry! That's costly. Are no-fee index mutual funds available through IB to Europeans, or do you pay €10 for those also? Mutual funds are kind of like your Dad's old way to invest, but if you're not trading, then they're OK. I haven't really looked into mutual funds — there's a whole bunch o...

Re: How often should I rebalance when adding money to PP?
**** Oh, are you in Europe? **** I am. I'm using IB and (currently) running a US-focussed PP, which is another pain because of European regulation requiring ETFs to disclose key information in a specific way (I've covered that in another thread on the forums). That means most of the ETFs I can buy ...

How often should I rebalance when adding money to PP?
This might have been discussed on the forum before... I've been running a PP for about 18 months now, happy with the returns after an initial period of mixed (negative) results... Last year, after I had my initial allocation in the portfolio, I made investments in some other assets, which I don't co...

Try this: https://portfoliocharts.com/portfolio/index-funds/
It has a decent collection of ETFs listed on UK and German exchanges.
Also, Justetf.com is a great resource for European investors.

Re: European ETF Alternatives
I'd guess these are broker restrictions. Open an account with another and it should work. Be aware of estate taxes since you are buying US-domiciled ETFs. Unfortunately, not broker restrictions, but just a decision by US fund managers not to comply (at least for now) with EU regulation. It seems th...

Re: European ETF Alternatives
Consumer protection supposedly, but it might also be a veiled attempt to prop the European ETF scene:

European ETF Alternatives
I'm based in the EU, been running a US-based (USD) PP for about 6 months spread in ETFs. I am now looking at diversifying further by buying specific sector/industry-tracking ETFs (such as VGT, FINX, etc.) However, due to a recent change in regulation, I cannot trade most of the ETFs I'm interested i...

Re: 2 PP Portfolios, 6 months performance
So does anyone here actually follow the PP as designed? Be honest. I didn't include that in my original post, but both portfolios I mentioned were split 4*25% in the beginning and the plan is to rebalance them back to this split each time they reach the 15/35 band. So, yes, I follow the PP as desig...

2 PP Portfolios, 6 months performance
Hello, I opened two separate portfolios about 6 months ago and this is their performance up until now. Obviously not perfect, so I was curious to find out whether other members of the forum have had similar issues or you have any advice. Thanks! Here are the numbers: European PP (in EUR) Start date:...
