Re: LAPD Response in Dorner Case

I know this comment will be viewed as political, but this is why law abiding citizens should be armed just as much as the police. Regardless of which side of the gun control debate you fall on, please explain to me how the 2 hispanic women being armed would have helped here. If 7 cops opened fire o...

Re: S&P500 tracker that does not distribute dividends

Look at Vanguard's Tax-Managed Growth Funds VTCIX / VTCLX. They are basically what you are asking for. Low expense, broadly diversified, and managed to not pay out any gains. They are managed to not pay out any or very few capital gains (by trading less frequently or by netting losses) but IIRC the...

Re: Treasurydirect.gov and terms of service - risky?

TradeKing used to make you use a virtual on-screen keyboard to click in your password that was IIRC a 10 character minimum every freaking time you logged in. That was such a PITA that I finally closed my account. I am told that after the merger with Zecco, they now only require the virtual keyboard ...

For a really good time, you can get a cash bonus and free trades if you rollover an IRA or 401k

Re: Gold for high inflation, TIPS for low inflation?

If I was handed a million dollars, I'd probably divide it between my PP and my VP, but probably my PP would get less than 40% (thus dropping the PP portion to less than 40% overall).  I don't imagine much change in my current investments, mostly just more of each.  (Re. ETFs or funds in general, I ...

Re: LTT paralysis

There has been plenty of the, "you never know" discussion before. That is not my point here. My question is simply: Can the PP actually benefit from a declining asset in a long term bear market if the road is bumpy enough to capture LTT gains by rebalancing? Without market timing, it wouldn't be an...

Not to get off topic, but Charles Shaw is awful. I would personally NEVER spend more than $8 on a bottle of wine, but for maybe $5 you can get some really good wines at TJ.

Do Vitamin D or curcumin reduce the risk of colon or prostate cancer by over 40%? For Vitamin D, all cancers in general are 50% or more lowered, including breast, prostate, colon, esophagus, pancreas, ovary, rectum, bladder, kidney, lung, uterus, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma.  And a ...

Re: Boycott the Super Bowl

It was a good game.  Got better after the power outage. The narrative was basically "The Crybaby vs. The Stoic." It was nice to see an ass like Jim Harbaugh get served some humble pie. I didn't really care who won, but if forced to choose, I would have gone with the Ravens simply because I live in ...

Re: Putting the world to rights

Florida had an 'intangibles tax' that was basically a tax on assets [they have no income tax]. It was repealed in 2007. Must not have been too popular  ;D
