Re: Why Value?
Whatever "style" you choose, whether it be growth, value, momentum, or total market, just make sure you commit to it. The best investment strategy is the one you can stick to.

Re: Why Value?
Harry Browne eventually moved from a collection of Growth stock funds to the S&P 500. A lot of pp’ers seem to like value stocks. I am still partial to value stocks. ^-^ Every once in a while, I look at the performance of growth stock funds and value stock funds versus VTSAX, Vanguard’s total domest...

What do you guys like to do for fun dates when you take your spouse out? Dinner and movie is nice, but it's overdone. Anything off the beaten path you guys like?

Barrett: and the one-eyed man in the country of the blind is king! Smithers: do you follow Value Stock Geek, featured in another thread? I don't, but I definitely will now. I remember many moons ago, I was a diehard Ben Graham/Warren Buffett disciple reading annual reports and trying to "be like Bu...

I am still perpetually grateful to Craig and Tex for introducing me to the PP. I wish Tex would also do another interview.

Re: New interview with Craig Rowland
What I found really interesting about the interview was Craig's insight on cryptographic systems being compromised and hacked. It's true. Bitcoin has proven resilient... so far. But it does rely on a relatively static security framework and a bunch of infrastructure to function. Gold is totally iner...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
That is definitely Vinny’s house. What were you using Python for? Tinkering with AI? :) Just playing with programming for the sake of programming. I used to enjoy it as a teenager, solving problems step by step. I never got good enough to cut it as a professional code monkey. Not even close. Sudden...

Re: What's the actual rationale for investing in long term bonds?
I see what you mean. For me the big challenge with the canonical PP is the idea of investing in LTTs regardless of what rates are. The lower rates are, the more the risk-reward relationship skews towards risk rather than return (return free risk). I ended up settling on a global government bond lad...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
JavaScript still sucks. >:D Do you like Python? I’ve played with it a little bit. Just an amateur interest. I love Python. Much like Ruby, it's a language that just gets out of the way and lets the programmer enter a state of flow and focus on the task at hand. With JavaScript I feel like I'm tryin...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
Wait, you were in Switzerland? Everyone knows about haggis, Mountaineer. O0 It’s too extreme to not hear about it. Smithers, you must be relieved, pun intended, to be back in your home bathroom. Oh, and yes! We were in Switzerland briefly as part of our connecting flight to Ukraine. Incidentally we...

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
All the cabbage rolls I tried were great, but by far the greatest were the ones made by my fiance's aunt living in Vinny(tsia). In my humble opinion, the key to a good cabbage roll is to cook the cabbage to the point in which it's so soft that it's like dough. Cabbage rolls that have cabbage that is...

Whither Smithers? Still abroad? Whither Smithers? Still abroad? Yes. You reminded me. With him being where he was / is ... we needed daily reports to tell us he was in no danger. Sorry for the radio silence. The last week of our trip was super busy and hectic. Also, because no one said anything abo...
