Re: Black rock socially responsible investing

Social justice investing will draw interest until it sorely lags the S&P 500, which it ultimately will. And then only idiots will invest that way. ::) It's like the restaurant that told customers to pay whatever they wanted, and then went bankrupt in 6 months because they weren't profitable. :o Sur...

Re: A much better political quiz

I am FAR from a Progressive! I cannot stand Bernie!!! Specifically because of all the policies he advocates as Mr. Free. I may have voted for Trump ahead of Bernie! Vinny Capture.JPG Trump is a progressive. He is probably left of Clinton if you go back to Clinton's State of the Union speeches. That...

We also have the abomination that is the "gig economy" where people are lining up to be paid less than min wage after expenses (gas, maintenance, wear and tear, etc). These things are like a rock holding wage growth down. I'm not sure what your problem with Gig working is. You sound like a Cali pol...

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

Someone said once that money is like manure, it only does any good when you spread it around. The more concentrated wealth becomes the weaker and more precarious capitalism's position becomes. F. Roosevelt was a very wise man in this regard. Had it not been for roosevelt we would have probably had ...

Re: Black rock socially responsible investing

I think it's great. If increased "social responsibility" is directly tied to increase in capital and stock prices, more companies will take it seriously. This is using capitalism itself as a driver for change. Those that don't like it will buy ETF's from a company that doesn't do this. Those that do...

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

In my not so humble opinion, I think labor unions played a big part of moving and/or losing US industry/jobs to offshore countries/companies. Automobiles, aircraft, electronics, electronics customer service, appliances, chemicals, ship building, lumber, etc. I saw it happening first hand in my comp...

Re: Libertarians of Reddit

I find the left view that the right are fascists ironic (see 'Antifa'). You don't see the right telling anyone what is acceptable to think. That is the hallmark of fascism. I would disagree with that. There are a lot of people on the "right" telling people what is acceptable or not to think, say, a...

Re: Libertarians of Reddit

Really, I think I personally see forward movement as inevitable. The past is gone. So why fight it? Since both liberalism and conservatism are moving targets, conservatives always lose eventually. Liberals always win eventually. Todays conservatism is yesterdays liberalism, and todays liberalism is...

Right. Like none of the "left" views you see from us here are "progressive" or "democratic socialist" or whatever. I think we seem "left" only in the context of the norm of this board. But in actuality Me, doodle, Vinny, glennds, Corto, etc are all more moderate than anything. My views piss far left...

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

To cling to a dying industry instead of investing into blossoming industries? To also risk us losing our seat as the #1 country for innovation by discouraging workers from moving to these newer more lucrative industries? I feel this everytime I hear someone mention coal....like, really? The future ...

Why is it that Apple in recent years has been moving manufacturing back to the U.S.? Why is it that companies like Taiwan Semiconductor and FoxConn made moves in recent years to produce in the U.S.? You seriously don't know the answer to that question???? It's because the Trump administration force...

I work with a guy from India, and he plans on moving back when he retires. He has been putting tons of money into Indian money markets lately because he is getting like 4-5% interest on cash there. Pretty crazy. What I would do to get a guaranteed risk free 4-5% return on cash???

Haven't read the story yet
Basically they made a pretend unofficial elector vote that doesn't count. It's not news. The actual official electors went the way they were expected. It's over.

MI legislature is meeting, they'll probably go Republican also. Looking very good for Trump I thi...
