Re: YouTube Junkie

Of course, and don't call me Shirley! (Mountaineer, it's a play on trying juveniles as adults, combined with the racial bias in our criminal justice system). Surely, Shirley, you cleared that up.  I thought I knew what the Onion was like but since I almost never read it, I was not sure.  It looked ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

For those of you who are agnostics, or discard the concept of faith in a God that cannot be proven, I have a question.  I'm making the assumption you do have "faith" in arithmetic and logic, hence my question.  How do you reconcile the Peano Axioms and Gödel's Undecidability or Incompleten...

I started to put this in the YouTube thread but it seems to fit better in this one.  Link wording is self-explanatory.

much more elegant to use the old K&E. I'm a Post man myself  :) Post is an excellent choice - bamboo substrate with celluloid scales if I remember correctly.  I also used Picketts (one full size, one pocket size) a lot, but for some reason the mahogany substrate and ivory-like faces of the K&am...

Jesus! I always knew you would call on the Lord in a time of need.  ;D ... Mountaineer At least I did it in awe of someone else's taxes... Not mine... This is an interesting device that replaces much manual labor.  These excavator mulchers are ideal for intensive vegetation control, land clearing, transmission lines, and forest fire prevention. My goodness!  It is like a giant inside-out paper shredder on a boom arm! I don't know why, but this ma...

Re: Interesting Reddit thread about economics

However, all the generations after the baby boomers have grown up in a proportionally faster and more nimble world, and I think they're more psychologically prepared for it. Even though the pace itself may be grueling, if you're raised in a world where a grueling pace of change is considered normal...

Re: The Serious Prospect of Scottish Secession

In response to the near secession of Scotland from the United Kingdom, the British government is promising to decentralize, giving more power to regional and local governments.  (Not just Scotland but Wales and Northern Ireland already have their own parliaments.  England hasn’t, being content to ru...

For those of you wanting to beat up on Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson, here is a good sermon for you to read or listen to.  It does a good job of holding up the miror for us to peer into ... do you like what you see?  The sermon is a good example of the Word, both the Law and the Gospel, being clearly...

Well, in my case my wife had no particularly strong political opinions when we got married. She's an anarchist now, though.  ;D not sure what my wife's opinions were before we met, if she had many, but she is definitely libertarianish headed toward anarchist...  of course the transition is easier t...

Austrian's. Hes talking about Austrian's .  And there theorys about economic's. I know, 4 posts late. The only thing I hate worse than the misuse of apostrophe's is pedantry. Kind of like asking "leaves" questions (vs. trees or forrest questions) about Genesis just for the sake of snarkin...

why Genesis can be trusted as real history of Creation about 6000 years ago and a global Flood. I have no problem with the concept of intelligent design but if this means I have to believe that the earth was created in 7 literal 24 hour days only 6000 years ago and that the loving and forgiving cre...

Re: Favorite camping goods

If I ever get back into camping I would sleep in a hammock. Off the wet muddy ground, protected from bugs and critters, can put mosquito net up and rain tarp to stay dry. Light to carry and pack and can be insulated to stay warm. No desert camping for you!  I guess that means you really are a tree ...

Re: Interesting Reddit thread about economics

My wife forwarded this to me; it's a Reddit thread in the "change my view" section in which someone postulates that the entire field of economics is basically politically-driven bunk and asks for economists to try to change his view. Pretty cool discussion. Here's a snippet from the top r...

Mountaineer, I listened to your first audio link.  The hosts are smart.  They do a good job of dismantling some atheist premises... or at least showing how they aren't very consistent.  However, as an agnostic, who thinks atheists are a bit to confident and quick to jump to conclusions that don't l...

Well certainly don't be quiet. But it's one thing to be skeptical of a scientific assertion. It's another to call it a "wild-ass assertion."  It's yet another altogether to call an advocate of it of being a force for evil. I guess if evil is pre-defined as not believing in God, the only G...

Re: iPhone 6

I hear the camera in the new iPhones is approaching DSLR quality from some of the reviews I've read.  My son is getting a 64 GB iPhone 6 to replace his dying iPhone 4 (cracked back, duck tape repair, after a bad fall but it still is functional); he said the 6 Plus is too big to be convenient for his...

I'm reminded of this C.S. Lewis quote: "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." For someone who doesn't believe, it's of no importance, and so hours of study is a waste of time.  If one actuall...
