My version of the GB is down 0.40% for Q1 2018. My buddy's portfolio is down 1.76%, so at least I'm beating him out. Lol!

This is one of my favorite calculators on your site, Tyler. It really puts withdrawals into perspective. I'm not anywhere close to retirement, but I feel much better equipped than before I found this forum and your site.

Also, it's important to keep an eye on the big picture and look at the options from few different perspectives. For example, your portfolio looks a lot more appealing in the Drawdowns calculator. Different people are motivated by different things, so it's hard to make generalizations. The best I ca...

For anyone interested in playing with the numbers for themselves, the tool is now live. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say your continued hard work is greatly appreciated, Tyler! It's interesting to compare the more volatile portfolios with either PP, GB, or my own concoction. There is a kind...

I use small and mid caps in my portfolio instead of the broad market. Over time they tend to outperform, but are more volatile.

Re: The GOLD scream room

Oh, I believe it applies in other aspects of life, just not investing! Seasonality, trends, etc have predictive value (e.g.forecasts) but the relationship of future returns to historical returns is less substantive to me. So, again, I ask... why would it matter if your 70/30 portfolio outperformed ...

I didn’t invest in the portfolio from 1998-2008 so it is not relevant to me. How is past data not relevant? :o Backtesting has no predictive value. It’s fun though, I actually do data mining and predictive analytics for a living. Then why would it matter if your 70/30 portfolio outperformed YTD?

Re: The GOLD scream room

You might as well hold 100% stocks if you never look, it has the highest expected return. Put everything in AAPL. It's the largest market cap stock out there but has crushed the overall market for years. Seriously, though, the PP is about as stable an allocation as one could ever hope for. Day to d...

Re: Is the PP going to hold up?

Smaller moves are much easier to make for me as well. If I received a large lump sum of money, I would have great difficulty putting it all to work immediately. I would slowly and methodically add to my positions over a course of time that felt adequate for the amount involved. It's likely too conse...

It's exactly times like this when I most appreciate the PP firewalls. Bonds, gold, and cash don't even need to make money for the PP to be a success when stocks are falling like a rock. Diversification FTW. You said it, brother! It's easy to discount the role bonds and gold are playing right now si...
