Re: Not Your Typical Christmas Ad

Yes, it's pretty unbelievable. I know a guy who went to Afghanistan with the US forces. His role was to assist in drawing up a new (modern) legal system. He came back on leave after 3-4 months and said that he just couldn't believe the stuff he was seeing over there... Bacha baz, bestiality, and th...

From your comments, I take it you have not kept up with the Figuring Out Religion thread.  Your comments have all been addressed - perhaps not to your satisfaction or agreement, but neverless addressed, particularly in the posts of the book "What They Need to Hear" by Klemet Preus. I pret...

Re: abortion discussion

No offense taken.  I can only share what God's Word says.  God's eyes are not our eyes, God's thoughts are not our thoughts, God's ways are not our ways.  As ridiculous as many think Scriptural teachings sound, that is what it says about sin.  It is the reason we so desperately need a Savior - not ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

President Harrison encourages LCMS to "not grow weary" in the public square: “We are going to be pushed on many sides on our participation in the state,”? Harrison warned those watching. “There will be people among us, among the orthodox Lutheran fellowship, who will have different ideas o...

all sins are equal in the eyes of God So you're saying shoplifting a candy bar is equally evil in God's eyes to premeditated murder? I don't know what's more ridiculous, that premise or that you actually believe that. No offense. No offense taken.  I can only share what God's Word says.  God's eyes...

Re: abortion discussion

I personally see little difference between an abortion "doctor" and an ISIS murderer.  Both addicted to death, both motivated by the darkest forces this world has to offer. Where do you stand on people who murder abortion providers? I'm making an assumption the "you" in your que...

Re: abortion discussion

So it's not the women who love killing babies but rather the doctors? You're sure that they aren't just trying to provide what they view as important medical services to women in need? I'm guessing most doctors don't like it much either; probably like the Germans running the gas chambers in WWII.  ...

Re: How much do you spend a month?

This is not a specific answer to the OP's question, but one of the easier personal finance methods I have read was "The Wealthy Barber" if I remember the title correctly.  Basically, it advocated deciding how much of your net income to very first thing before you spend a penny set apart fo...

Ran across this article today, and thought it fit in this thread: The Un-Evangelized Continent? --- Rod Dreher at The American Conservative   (Dreher is a former Catholic who is now an Orthodox Christian). The italics below indicate passages from an article that Dreher quotes. If any corner of the ...

Mountaineer, So you are claiming that anyone who claims not to believe in God or questions his existence actually does believe in God... but that we are actually angry with God. That's quite a claim. Indeed it is my friend, indeed it is, but my words were actually "you know there is a God"...

Could you please add into your "I am not xxxxxx" signature, "theologian", "prophet", and "open to ideas of others"? Tempting.  But I disagree with the latter.  I'm very open to the ideas of others WHEN it is not contradicted by...  you guessed it, FACTS. Actu...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

I have been reflecting on many of the posts in the voter ID, abortion, send Obama a message, etc. threads.  I thought the words from the introduction to a Bible study on Amos might be appropriate to share as "food for thought" whether you are a Bible scholar or not. The book of Amos has re...

Re: How much do you spend a month?

My wife and daughter both derive great pleasure from having nice things. I do not but we are a team so that drives costs up. Our food costs are really high. We are at at least $5000 a month in total expenses but I am a bit afraid to tally it all up. In other words, they're spoiled.  They derive ple...

Re: Midterm Election Central-Should We Send Obama A Message?

So you look at anybody who disagrees with you as a petulant child who needs to be slapped down? No, of course not.  But the Tea Party aren't new on the scene and their [in]actions have had negative consequences. Question: have you ever actually convinced anybody of anything? You'd be surprised.  Se...

13. Award Richard Nixon a posthumous Medal of Honor for "paving the way to the glorious future". That's it!  I am finally making my Stand.  Unacceptable!!! It was a little cocker spaniel dog in a crate that he'd sent all the way from Texas. Black and white spotted. And our little girl—Tri...

WHO and UNICEF are not exactly cops, but this story, if true, reeks of corrupt authorities.  This is an interesting thread to see the various viewpoints and preconceived notions people have about the story; it seems that only a few are capable of being objective relying on external sources of "...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

Searching for it or living it, definitely. When Christians talk about the correct worldview I always think they are talking about their religious doctrines which they think are the correct ones, beyond dispute. They remind me a lot of Obama in this way - not that they have the same worldview as him...
