Re: Well, I guess it's us

The image on the top is atmospheric CO2 concentration going back 400,000 years.  The image on the bottom is the EPICA core data.  I've tried to arrange it so these line up.  The text in the image on the top says "For 650,000 years, atmospheric CO2 has never been above this line ... until now".      ...

Re: Well, I guess it's us

Because I thought you were referring the to other site that rickb quoted from.  I'm too bored to read up on the whole pro argument again. I was simply quoting the site jafs referred you to. I haven't looked at the raw data myself (I'm not a climatologist), but my understanding is that it's pretty m...

Re: Well, I guess it's us

What is that chart and where does it come from? Its ice core sample temperatures from Wikipedia.  If you look only at 1860 to date of course you're going to "see" and "prove" global warming just as you would have 125,000 years ago, 250,000 years ago, 375,000 years ago and 410,000 years ago.  Warmin...

Re: PP humming along again

Lest I go all theoretical on us, if I had a very large chunk of money I was going to roll into a PP I would spread it out over year, but using PP historical returns this most likely will prove to not be beneficial to the bottom line. Actually, one of the data mining hobbyists with access to daily d...

Some New Balance models are still made in the US - but I think at this point most are not.

Just to be clear. Voting here means the folks who run this site (CraigR, MediumTex, and possibly TennPaGa as a moderator) can see the account name and IP address from which the vote originated. Top 1%? Top 0.1%

From another thread I posited that we have very few posters here in the top 1% (perhaps about 1% :) ), and likely no one in the top 0.1%.

Let's find out.

Re: Beware of bad data sources

I just found out that the prices for ETF SCHX seen on Stockcharts.com and Yahoo! Finance do not match! And they don't match by large amount. Beware! I have given up on both, and have gone back to Schwab.com for data and charting, because SCHX is a Schwab ETF. It's a pain to log in, but damage from ...

Re: Corporations and Political Speech

Recalling a recent thread addressed to getting the money out of politics, I found it interesting that the overriding concern of the left-leaning folks was on silencing the political speech of conservative organizations-- not on ending the quid pro quo culture that has made Congress the bought-and-p...

Re: Money in Politics

But, if I could convince myself of this, should that make me feel any better about him becoming my president? Exactly.  Let's follow the logic here. 1) Hillary is the lowest of the low, clearly willing to say anything in order to get elected. 2) Trump is saying things for effect that he doesn't rea...

Re: Staggering World Debt Points toward Crisis

The modern monetary system is truly bizarre.  Modern money is not backed by a tangible resource like gold.  It's backed by debt.  What the levels of world wide debt increasing means is that people (overall) have more money.  It's like the gold supply increasing over time.  This is not necessarily as...

Re: Big Surprise [not] - Hillary odds on favorite to win in 2016

Latest odds at http://www.oddsshark.com/entertainment/us-presidential-odds-2016-futures have Hillary at -200 and Trump at +200, meaning if you bet on Hillary and she loses you pay $200 and if she wins you win $100, while if you bet on Trump and he loses you pay $100 and if he wins you win $200. Re: Money in Politics

How about the proposed constitutional amendments here: http://reclaimdemocracy.org/proposed_constitutional_amendments/ ? the real problem is there is no counterbalance to money, in a more idealized, and probably more in line with founding intention type world, there would be a free press that would ...

Re: Money in Politics

I see. Well, don't we call that bribery?  It doesn't sound as good that way, does it? That could very well be, I don't actually know the history there. There are two issues here. One is how much money individuals can spend on influencing government.  The other is how much money corporations can spe...

Re: Modern TVs & 'the Soap Opera Effect'

It's a mismatch between the source frame rate (often 24 fps) and the display frame rate (generally 60 fps).  If the TV is getting input frames at 24 per second but has to generate output frames at 60 per second, there's a problem (since 24 doesn't divide evenly into 60).  There's a reasonably access...

Re: Money in Politics

Your reading of Trump is that he is basically lying about every single aspect of his campaign, and I mean everything. One question about this theory, though, is why isn't Trump soliciting campaign contributions from all of the usual suspects if he is only doing this to turn himself into THE moneyed...

Re: The political re-alignment of our time

The Republican Party is totally fracturing it appears.  The modern Republican party is an unholy alliance created by Nixon between the country club elites (the "haves") and southern segregationists (generally "have nots", who used to be solidly Democratic) disaffected by LBJ's civil rights agenda. ...

Okay, so the moneyed interests want open borders and trade agreements that make it easy to offshore U.S. jobs.  Trump says he is against these things because they weaken our society. Do you think he is secretly for these things because he is his own moneyed interest? I'm not following your logic. Y...
