Re: The Real Hillary Shady
Frankly, I suspect what a lot of the people who simply hate Hillary hate about her is that she's a woman. Please.... Really? You think that? Cripes. That's certainly not why I hate her. Her sex is irrelevant to me. My sense is that most of the people who dislike Hillary Clinton also dislike Bill C...

Re: Putin Declares Victory - Orders Russian Troops to Begin Leaving Syria
Putin wanted to put on a show of force for his domestic audience as well as the rest of the world. Because he knew there was no real military objective for Russia, he was able to end the deployment without having achieved anything meaningful from a military perspective. If it were possible for cynic...

He fought on Castro's side in the Cuban revolution, right?
I think he said that he didn't realize Castro was a bad guy. I wonder if he ever uses the same excuse when it comes to his son.

Re: Money in Politics
But, if I could convince myself of this, should that make me feel any better about him becoming my president? Exactly. Let's follow the logic here. 1) Hillary is the lowest of the low, clearly willing to say anything in order to get elected. 2) Trump is saying things for effect that he doesn't rea...

Re: Money in Politics
I could sit here and list many examples of Trump's words and behavior, but I guess I'd rather ask you a question. Can you not see the sadistic tendencies of this guy? I understand that Trump supporters want a big strong bully, but surely you see the potential downsides of a big strong bully, righ...

Re: Mid-March Presidential Election Poll
Mob action in chicago helps trump...is my guess. Silent majority will speak loudly. I agree. This country is packed full of angry, hateful people, unfortunately. Here's one at the Chicago rally tonight. Maybe she's a Hillary plant, but I kinda doubt it. Check out the comments stream on youtube ...

Re: Money in Politics
I notice you use the word "sadistic" to describe Trump a lot. That impression seems to carry a lot of weight for you. Can you describe how you came to the conclusion that Donald Trump is more sadistic than the other GOP candidates, or indeed than really anyone serious in politics today? I...

Lifetime Sex Crime Registry for Crimes Committed Before Age 12
If you want to get really pissed off at the way our government treats its most vulnerable citizens, check out this long New Yorker article about requiring children to register as sex offenders for life in some cases for "sex crimes" like pulling down a fellow students pants in elementary s...

Re: Our society is fragile and not well-thought-out
Hypocrisy weakens society. When it's okay for ghetto dwelling minorities to celebrate violence, racism and misogyny through their culture, but it's NOT okay for poor rural whites to celebrate their culture through Confederate flags and gun ownership (i.e., the legitimate exercise of their First and ...

Re: Big Surprise [not] - Hillary odds on favorite to win in 2016
As I recall, our prediction here in 2012 was 20-9 in favor of Obama winning. Exactamundo ! To be fair, though, that poll began November 4, 2012 two days before Election day. I expect the forum to be similarly accurate a couple of days before the election. :) Hillary is a weak candidate, especially...

Re: Big Surprise [not] - Hillary odds on favorite to win in 2016
I could be wrong, but my memory of the comments is that people tended to be hopeful that Romney could beat Obama, where as this time around the sentiment is more of certainty . I remember a lot of people being absolutely sure that Romney would win. And, I don't mean just people on here, I mean a lo...

If Trump gets the nomination, I anticipate he will sound FAR more moderate heading into the fall. He knows what he needs to win. I don't think it's a certainty that Trump will win in the fall, but I think it's a certainty that he has a better chance of winning than any other Republican except Kasich.

MediumTex is very kind to say those nice things about my wife and I. At least for him, he was a wonderful person and a perfect gentleman in terms of making sure that my wife and I were enjoying our meals (we had Tex Mex), and in general just making sure that we were having a good time. We at at thi...

I Finally Got To Meet One of You
Greg and his wife were passing through town and we met for lunch today. We talked for over two hours, but it flew by. It was really an amazing experience to have all of the ideas we exchange here sort of hop over into the real world in a real conversation with a real person. I wasn't disappointed. ...

If you turn on a bathroom fan or a vent hood that is actually vented outside and crack a window in another part of the house, it will pull a constant supply of fresh air into the house. If you're going to bother running a fan to push bad air out of the house, you might as well also be pulling some f...

Note that this is distinct from videos FOR cats. There are a ton of these (for free) on Youtube. One of my cats loves videos and will come running anytime the TV goes on. It's hilarious to see him lounge on the ottoman with his eyes glued to the screen. Does he hog the remote? That's what mine w...

Re: Money in Politics
As far as I'm concerned, we could ban all contributions. Giving a politician money isn't a constitutional right in my book. I don't think it's that so much as the idea that people out to have the freedom to do what they want with their own property, and if they want to use their property to effect ...

Re: The Revenge of the Lower Classes and the Rise of American Fascism
My 1960s self would say that 2016 is not at all what I had in mind when I was envisioning a color-blind country with equal opportunity for all. It's like the blueprint was good, but the building team was composed of incompetent ideologues. Was the blueprint good, or are we just decades later observ...

Re: The Real Hillary Shady
All we have to go on is perceived character, and specifically, how these people make us feel. It's a total myth that we care about policy--even educated people like most of us. We really don't care at all. We support the person who gives us a personal warm fuzzy feeling or a fire in our bellies. On...

Re: The Revenge of the Lower Classes and the Rise of American Fascism
Not to get too far off topic here, but what led to your affection for fascism as a small boy? I don't think I learned about fascism until I was a good bit older, I guess in my teens. It was presented negatively, and I've held a negative view of it for my whole life. I'm curious what attracted yo...

Re: Money in Politics
Why would we want money to flow from individuals to politicians? That just means that the people with a lot of money will get more influence, which is exactly the problem right now. The only way to get our system to work as it's supposed to work would be to get the influence of money out of the pic...
