Re: Mint.com

Ahh gotcha. I was trying to get my Treasury Direct (with I and EE bonds) into Mint today but it seems like it wasn't really working. They said it was in "beta" mode but not sure how long it has been like that.

Re: Mint.com

I was thinking that same thing about Mint. Perhaps they aren't putting it in the code for gold because higher government powers are trying to keep you from thinking of gold as an investment/protection of wealth and more just a shiny rock. It's all a conspiracy ;-) Also I am checking out Mvelopes now...

Re: Mint.com

I definitely agree about the credit cards and such. And just for having balances on savings accounts as well. You're right about the investing portion though and I feel it could use some work on their end. Also I really like their "Way to Save" column. I found a few promotional credit card offers th...

Mint.com

Anybody on here use mint.com? I really like it for the most part (especially for being free). Good for being able to see all your accounts all at once and I feel reasonably safe about the data. Also good for when trying to determine when credit card bills are coming due and being able to track expen...

Re: May 2012 I Bond Rates

As part of the cash portion though, if you assumed that inflation would be below 3.5-3.6% than you would be doing better with an EE bond over an I bond due to the implied doubling of the value of the EE bond over 20 years. As also pointed out in the thread I just linked to, the EE bond also pays a ...

Re: TLT vs buying direct

craigr, Thank you for the advice. Regarding taxable events though, let's go with the example for you having a 30-year bond ladder of 30, 29, 28, 27, etc. years left to maturity. In this scenario, wouldn't you sell off then a 20 year bond every year regardless of how your Bond's portion of your portf...

Re: TLT vs buying direct

Regarding the unrealized capital gains that are in the ETFs, would those then potentially be passed on as a taxable event then to the "unlucky" ones that are holding the ETF at that time? For instance, if I were to purchase $10,000 in EDV, or TLT, etc. tomorrow, am I just gambling then for whenever ...

Re: May 2012 I Bond Rates

I guess I'm just trying to think of which of the two (EE or I bonds) to invest into for the Tax Year 2012. My salary isn't high enough right now that I can afford to put $20,000 into savings bonds ($10,000 for each bond) so that argument for tax-deferred doesn't really work for me. I'm trying then t...

Re: May 2012 I Bond Rates

I was reading up a bit on what Moda was saying about having EE bonds as part of the Bond portion of the PP. http://gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/http://77.104.139.218/~gyroscop/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4 As part of the cash portion though, if you assumed that inflation would be below 3.5-3.6% than you...

Re: May 2012 I Bond Rates

(Correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding) Since the Cash Portion of the Portfolio is meant for deflationary, shouldn't you be using the potential EE savings bonds instead of an I bond. The Gold portion of your portfolio would already be accounting for the fact of a future that potentially might ...
