Re: Sign of the times
"The last time Christians really suffered, they weren't even white. They were Hebrew. " I can understand why you might think this to be true. However, it displays a profound lack of knowledge about the history Christian martyrdom. A few episodes I will mention which are well past the era of the 1st ...

Re: 29% of Registered Voters Believe Armed Revolution Might Be Necessary....
A.O....do you also deny that the redcoat plan to confiscate guns at Lexington and Concord was the direct opening cause of violent conflict in the American revolution?...a bridge too far? Also, can you point to any corroborating articles to support your statement about gun control in the interwar per...

TREASURY FLOATING RATE NOTE TERM SHEET
this article refers to a proposal for TREASURY FLOATING RATE NOTEs to be issued. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-05-01/treasury-issues-draft-floating-rate-note-term-sheet If this is implemented, how might it impact our LTT? Is this something we need to keep an eye on? Is this something totally ne...

Re: Forget Gold, Use Silver as Currency
Not a big fan of hard currencies. have you heard anything about the monetary history of the Byzantine Empire? I recall listening to a podcast (McAlvany?) where they discussed the Eastern Empire surviving 500 years after the fall of Rome. The Byzantines maintained the purity of the metal currency.

Anyone placing bets on where the bottom is on this drop? A complete SWAG, but I'm guessing around $1400 before something else goes awry in the global economy and everyone realizes dumping gold may not have been their wisest moment. i wish i shared your optimism. -we have surpassed 50% decline in si...

Re: Why Dr. Kermit Gosnell's Trial Is Important
All I can say is that I want to err on the side of less government control when I'm not sure of the answers. You probably haven't considered erring on the side of the new human life being entitled to protection. After all...we have no proof...that the pre-born, even pre-3 months...is NOT a unique h...

Re: Why Dr. Kermit Gosnell's Trial Is Important
But let me clarify that I don't believe that abortion ought to be a crime; as we've seen, like outlawing guns or drugs, it will just happen anyway in more dangerous contexts. Ultimately you can't really stop people from doing what they want to do. Hi PS...can you expand on your thinking here? Alth...

Re: Is the PP designed to accomodate something unique in history - U.S. bankruptcy
The big difference seems to be whether or not you believe in something which has never happened before: the bankruptcy of the U.S. The US may not have declared bankruptcy, but the US federales defaulted twice in the 20th century. -devaluation of US$ from $20 to $35 / oz Au, compliments of FDR -cl...

By underperform, I'm saying underperformance vs. the 9% average annual return. I'm holding this up as the bar to measure the PP.

Average time for PP drawdown and/or underperformance?
Has anyone done any backtesting to determine how long the average PP drawdown and/or under-performance lasts? Since nearly every year has ended in the black, I'm guessing that its less than one year. Based on this assumption, combined w/ the length of the current under-performance vs historical aver...

I'll give credit where credit is due. I can respect someone calling for higher taxes more if they "put there money where there mouth is" as Obama did in this case. Often times, it's the opposite and the guys calling for higher taxes giver very sparingly to charitable causes. Btw, Romney gave almo...

Those are some good observations. But I like Harry Browne's rules more. Really the best advice you can give someone of a very general nature is to index, keep fees and expenses as low as possible, stay diversified (which means holding more than just bonds and stocks), reinvest dividends, avoid trad...

This is really encouraging...that power will go from bureaucrats, teachers unions, school districts...and be shifted where it belongs...in the hands of those who care most for children...the parents.
