Re: Schools and Covid
My daughter will be a sophomore in high school with an August 5th start. We should hear about that this week, and it may be some kind of hybrid solution and almost certainly with masks. But it's clear that the kids need to go back in some capacity. They need the structure and accountability that co...

Re: Schools and Covid
My son will be a freshman at Indiana University (in-state) this Fall. They will finalize plans for classes next week. It's expected that there will be a mix of online and in-person classes, at least partially at the discretion of the instructor. The school has been making a lot of adjustments to de-...

Re: Trump's Mt. Rushmore speech
Vinny, with all due respect, you don’t seem to have an accurate understanding of Trump’s base. And some people just like a good kick-ass tune, especially at celebrations, events featuring kick-ass military hardware, or campaign rallies. It’s more about setting the mood than analyzing the lyrics. Chr...

Re: Question on the media
I think it’s more than the usual tit-for-tat and Trump not being cut out for the job. He may or may not be right for it, but the political establishment and the media are actively trying to subvert him and his administration. That takes things to a level we haven’t seen before.

I saw an article today about Google alternatives: https://fossbytes.com/google-alternative-best-search-engine/ Searx is a "privacy-respecting metasearch engine" that lets you search multiple engines with one query. https://searx.me/ Their site lists public instances of their search engine,...

Re: For those who need reassurance that backing Trump is the right thing to do
Good points by Tucker Carlson last night too. He’s been on a roll lately. https://youtu.be/NS-bsetu01w Skip the first 2 minutes if you don’t need the rehash of of the previous night’s appearance by Mike Braun (R-IN) although it does set the rest of it up. Yes, he has been quite forceful lately, but...

In local sporting news, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has announced that the Indy 500 will take place on August 23rd with the stands at 50% capacity. Tickets are all being reissued. Ticket holders with more than 2 tickets are being guaranteed 50% of their originally allocated seats. They can choos...

Re: when "google it" became usless
The search engines are all a bit different and “the best” is very subjective. I use Duck Duck Go by default but if I’m really looking for something sometimes I also try Google and Bing. YouTube itself is actually the world’s #2 search engine. There used to be (and maybe still are) search aggregators...

Re: An outsiders perspective of the politcal turmoil
There is no "average American". There's conservatives & liberals who will always stay on their end of the spectrum and vote accordingly, and a centrist population straddling the two sides. It's that centrist population that decides the election (voter turnout among the other groups is...

Back to the original topic... I saw this posted by an acquaintance on social media: "Agree to disagree" is reserved for things like "I don't like coffee". Not racism, homophobia, and sexism. Not human rights. Not basic common decency. If I unfriend you during this, it IS personal...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
The best theory I've heard about why this has been the case is because in the hot weather states we stay inside with the circulating A/C on. I have heard the theory that northern locations had the biggest problems earlier because everyone stays inside with the heat on, but southern locations are ha...

There’s bigotry anywhere one wants to find it. If it can’t be found, just redefine it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?
I don't think the DOJ can shut down a publication for having false claims. We have this thing called the First Amendment. It's a pretty high bar to get over. Bolton will say anything that will advance militarism. If he's against Trump, that's a very good sign that Trump is doing something right. Ex...

No examples yet, just conceptual takes. And then the context comes after that. An essay broken up into 16 tweets in rapid success...
