Re: PP/VP Strategy Sanity Check
Yup, the savings rate is the most important thing. ERE Jacob said he only utilized a savings account for the first 4 years while he figured out how to invest. If your savings rate is high enough (I'm talking 75% or so), you're going to get to 4% or 3% without much contribution from investment return...

Keep in mind that studies aren't created equal. Metabolic chamber studies are a lot more useful than self-reported data. But really, just look at people who need to have their nutrition figured out, like bodybuilders, athletes, etc.

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
Saw this posted in the BH forum. STUDENT TURNS $5K INTO $800K TRADING CRYPTO, BUT NOW OWES $400K IN TAXES https://bitcoinist.com/student-400k-cryptocurrency-taxes/ (Nov 2018) Well, at first I thought "turning $5k into $400k isn't too shabby either." But reading the article, his crypto is ...

Apparently, there is also a vague link to increased incidence of prostate cancer in men who take fish oil capsules. You just don't know who to believe anymore. :'( What, with an N of 8? ::) I say go for common sense. Fish is good for you. Fish oil probably is too. Mark, we're on the same page. If I...

Re: The Permanent Supplement Regime
Assuming you don't suffer from a chronic health condition, the human body does not need supplements in pill form if you eat a healthy, varied diet. That said, I take these supplements: Multi-vitamin - Doctor recommended as a "safety net" just in case I'm missing anything in my vegetarian ...

A witness has testified that an ex-stripper-turned-drug company executive gave a doctor a lap dance as part of a sales pitch for an addictive fentanyl spray. Holly Brown, a former sales representative at Insys Therapeutics, said in federal court on Tuesday that her then-boss, Sunrise Lee, had been ...

I think this spin-off thread is confusing two different stories in the news - one about Oxycontin and another about physician burnout. If burned out physicians are cynical about their work, they are probably more easily influenced by the marketers at Purdue Pharma. Right. I originally went back to ...

After considering it a bit more, it seems likely that Warren and O-C are taking a page out of the Trumpbook and making an outrageous opening bid, which they will walk back later on to look reasonable.

They don't take all of the risks. Purchasing anything you don't need comes with the risk of going broke, which means there's risks for consumers. ;D Pollution and other externalities push risks to the surrounding community. Yes, it seems fair to punish people for that. Those are bad things. Taxing ...

"According to the economists who crafted the candidate’s proposal, her plan is meant to discourage the hoarding of wealth by the über-rich." So let's take the economists (Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman, from *** Berkeley ***) at face value. In the words of Craig Fugate (as quoted in Ted ...

Re: The Left is Eating Itself Pt. II
Unlikely, I guess? The article mentions Obama-era proposals that didn’t make it, and these go beyond those suggestions. But, anything can happen. And of course, those with $50 million are nothing to cry over. It would set a dangerous precedent, though, and perhaps that would be enough to get some c...

It amazes me that anyone wants to be a landlord in Cali, SF in particular. The taxes make charging adequate rent to be profitable, the local government makes all of the laws pro-tenant / anti-owner, and then they even talk about rent-control. Seriously? Johnny writes about SF real estate a lot. Lik...

I love how people like to blame "lack of affordable housing" - that's a load of B-S. There's always affordable housing, you just have to travel a bit (like, inland in the case of southern California) to find it. I also think it's a mistake to require landlords to maintain rental propertie...

Now I'm leaning more towards some sort of base agribusiness direction built more on rice, beans, etc rather than on building it on the "value-add" of junk food producers. Your priorities as an investor are going to have to be different from your priorities as a food consumer. Eat rice and...
