Re: Gun Poll

By the way, someone I know who is highly knowledgeable about guns told me that Glocks are illegal to own in Massachusetts. I forgot what is the reason. The bureaucrats in Massachusetts have probably forgotten the reason, too. ::) I found this: Attorney General Maura Healey's investigation into Gloc...

Re: A Current Fad?

If I were a young dermatologist I would look in that direction. I don't see how reversal could be done on the people that have extensive artwork on their body, and I bet it will be costly and painful.

Re: A Current Fad?

However, I believe it is a sign of cultural decay that will eventually reverse when we go back to a more conservative culture . Hahahaha, you can't be serious (although I wish you were). The US, Canada and Europe are moving further to the left with each passing year. What on earth would make you th...

Re: A Current Fad?

Tattoos seemed to start becoming more popular in the late '90s and have continued to gain in popularity up to the present day. That's more than 20 years. So I would call it a long-term cultural shift, not just a fad. That's about the time I started to notice as well. It started with single tattoos ...

A Current Fad?

Under the category of “things that really don’t matter much” I have a question. Is the current rampant craze of tattoos in the U.S. only a fad? I grew up in an era where tattoos were reserved for sailors or guys with large biceps that had “MOM” tattooed on their arm. I can now walk through Walmart a...

Re: You guys know how to fix water hammer?

Usually the solution is to have a stub of pipe sticking upwards from a tee in the line. I don't know how long it should be, but I suppose a foot or two would be nice. When the line gets pressurized, that stub will contain trapped air under pressure. It will cushion the shock of shutting off a fauce...

Re: If you actually think black lives matter, watch this ad

Yes, for my plan to work all guns on the planet would need to disappear. After that is accomplished, do we start the elimination of alcohol consumption from the planet? MADD reports a person is injured in a drunk driving crash every 2 minutes, and someone is killed every 51 minutes. How does that c...

Re: Biden/Harris Discussion

I remember that Trump leaned on the FDA to authorize hcq use for prospective randomized clinical trials. But when reports of cardiac arrhythmias surfaced, the trials were stopped. There are a number of retrospective, correlative studies with mixed results but these aren’t helpful. If Trump had orde...

Re: Bond Yield question

OK, did what I should have done first, and called Vanguard fixed income desk. Apparently the 30 day SEC yield is a somewhat complicated thing but is calculated the same for all fixed income ETF's, regardless of which company you are looking at. That way it is a apples to apples comparison when evalu...

Re: Bond Yield question

I don't think the 30 day period (whenever it is calculated) is the issue here. There has been extremely little difference in the 30 day SEC yield in the last several months, so consequently this does not come into play with my question. Regardless of the period, I'm seeing greater than 100bp differe...

I understand that, but it's difficult to believe the yield dropped 127 bp in one month on an etf of this duration.

My mistake, not what intended to type. I'm not trying to compare to MM, just trying to figure out why my calculation for annual return is so much more than the published data.

I personally take the pandemic seriously, but has anyone noticed MSNBC has become a 24/7 perma-bear on the subject? No other topics discussed. Only Covid. I routinely surf through the broadcasts for fun to see what the BS du jour is, and it's always the Covid bad news, mostly blamed on the actions ...

Re: Knuckleheads PP thread resurrected

PenFed is not a bad outfit by any means, but the real question is how liquid those CDs will be during the next financial crisis. What is the penalty for breaking them? Kind of a moot (or mute as they say on the interweb) point for me as they mature in January. The reason I bought them 10 years ago ...

Bond Yield question

The SEC yield for a bond fund is calculated by annualizing its daily income distributions for the previous 7 days but quoted as a 30 day yield. However, there is something I am missing. If I take last month's dollar dividend payment in my VGIT account and multiply it by 12, then divide by the curren...

Re: Knuckleheads PP thread resurrected

I've got some 5 year treasuries maturing soon and I'm considering 1 year CD's at 1%. I just can't see near 0% in treasuries for cash purposes.

I've also got some 5% PenFed 10 year CD's maturing next year. Never dreamed I'd go that far out when I purchsed, but it sure paid off.

Re: Who still supports BLM after this?

Not to be naive, but I always wonder if these companies are openly supporting these liberal causes because they actually believe in them, fear a loss of revenue if they don't, or both? I guess it really doesn't matter to me personally because I always make a mental note and do business elsewhere. I...

Had to choose either Mid Cap Growth (which I did) or Mid Cap Value on Portfolio Visualizer since they don't offer MCB. Interesting results (constrained to 1978 onwards due to Long Term Treasury availability): https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/backtest-asset-class-allocation?s=y&mode=1&tim...

Re: WD40 spilled on silicone

This product is not classified as toxic by established criteria. It is an aspiration hazard. Just don't breath your silicone tray and you will be OK. The oral LD50 indicates WD40 is less toxic than table salt. That’s great news! And bad- not knowing that it was going to spurt out of the can instead...
