Re: The GOLD scream room
I'm sure those international stock funds do nothing but go up forever, and never go down. Emerging markets, man... that stuff NEVER goes down... *roll eyes* All I did was support the claim that my 70/30 BH allocation is ahead of my PP YTD even after a 700 and 1200 point decline. I wasn't aiming any...

Wow about XIV... I considered a XIV trading strategy many many years ago, but decided that the meltdowns were just too severe... yikes!

Re: Dividend Growth Investing
Can someone explain to me why we'd ever want dividends? It devalues the share price by the same amount and we're taxed on it. It's like we're selling some shares at a profit (even if the value has decreased) and being taxed. Am I missing something here? I'm not opposed to owning solid companies that...

When do you need the money? About 2/3rds is locked away in a Roth, so that's going to be there for awhile. I may not touch that at all. The rest is in a margin account that I've been using to save up for a house. I've been looking for 2 years and don't like the housing market at all right now, so w...

I'm actually a modified GB allocation. 40% stocks. I still probably shouldn't sell...but I sure feel like selling.ochotona wrote:Eufo if you hold the PP, don't sell stocks. Your allocation is already low. 25% is a hunker down allocation for most people.

Friday was really really bad. I need more "really"s in there, but you get the point.
I have half an urge to sell everything and go straight cash for a bit... bah. I hate feelings like that, because I can't be the only one thinking that, right?

Cash is King!
Friday was a great example of why we hold cash. It's not much comfort when the portfolio is shrinking, but it's important to consider that it would have been worse had we been more exposed. In fact, it's likely it may continue on Monday. Seeing both equities and bonds fall has been expected for awhi...

I don’ understand that graph. VTI had a share price of about 50 in March-April of 2010. Now it’s at 144. ??? What is the graph measuring? I believe it's the price per share of VWO divided by the price per share of VTI to achieve a graph showing relative performance. As the number decreases, VTI is ...

I don't think we're done with this melt up. I haven't had any muggles asking me about stocks at all. We have plenty of room for increases.
I'm at 40.2% in stocks currently.

US stocks up 1% today. My EM ETF up 1.5% in one day. This is nuts. It's got to snap back like a rubber band stretched too far. Trees do not grow into outer space. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil I love it! Ha! This run up is amazing. Obviously it has to end at some point, but you gotta love...

Yeah...
$1,522 vs. $1,385 (on APMEX.com) for a 1 oz bar in TEP package... so $137 difference. Some of that might be to cover potential credit card fees? Plus Walmart needs a slice...

Re: Re-balance instantly or wait a little while?
I did not pull the trigger in 2017 to re-balance. Now, in 2018, my stocks are not over 35% anymore. So should I wait until it hits 35% again before re-balancing? I know HB said to only check the account around once a year so if I had not been checking it, I would not have known it had temporarily m...

Looks like I'm the lone pessimist so far with a -5% to 0%. I think we might see some asset depreciation in both stocks & bonds. I'm liking cash & gold. I hope I'm wrong. Another year like this one would be great!

Re: 2017 PP Return Poll
Before I answer this, it becomes a bit confusing for me to break down my gains since I'm constantly throwing money into my accounts. My finance software offers up ROI and IRR for possible metrics. For this year, ROI is around 7% while IRR is around 13%. Even after reading up on these, I'm not follo...
