Re: How do you invest the Cash portion?
A few questions for you... 1) First the oddball one. How do you get current news to appear under your posts -- even long after you have composed them? 2) I have read here how some people have created automatic ladders in Fidelity. I did call Vanguard (my investment company exclusively) to learn all ...

Re: How do you invest the Cash portion?
I finally got the answer to one question I'd been asking various places. Can one use Treasury Direct within a retirement account? And, the answer was NO. Therefore, with my belief that income producing investments (such as Cash) should be in retirement accounts that means I would not be able to buy ...

Prices you bought in at?
For those of you who went all in in the Permanent Portfolio at once (and, have good records)…. What was the date that you went in? And, at the time of purchase what was the level for the following Big 3 (I have the current levels in ()'s) Gold - $1,493 ( about 20% below the all-time high on 9/5/11) ...

Gold dealers you have used?
I have decided that for part of my gold investment I want to have it in the form of one ounce American Eagle / Maple Leaf coins. Way back on February 21, 1995 I made my sole prior gold coin purchase. From Benham Certified Metals I spent $2,041.58 to acquire the following: 3-oz AE@395.92,2-oz ML@395....

Re: HB Fans and Meyers-Briggs Personality Types
Popular occupations for ISTJ's include being an accountant (me), police, military. It's the J (structure) part. Vinny ESJT. First took the Meyers-Briggs in the mid-1970s. Was ESTJ. Took again in the late 1990s - still an ESTJ. I guess I'm incapable of change. For what is worth, the majority of ...

Re: HB Fans and Meyers-Briggs Personality Types
I was introduced to the Myers-Briggs over 30 years ago. Bought a lot of books on it and, for awhile, it was an avocation as I formally and informally tested over 100 people. I have taken the test a few times and I am a classic, prototypical - ISTJ. Not borderline on any of the four. I am each of the...

In Craig's Bond FAQ he wrote: What bond fund can I use to purchase Long Term Treasury Bonds? There is only one at this time that is acceptable for use in the Permanent Portfolio: iShares Treasury Long Term Bond ETF (Ticker: TLT) Since he wrote that 10 years have there been any additional bond funds ...

Gold / Stock / Bonds at highs or near highs?
I'm in the process of making a plan to go 100% into the Permanent Portfolio. My understanding is that the 25% cash portion is somewhat like ballast in the overall portfolio while each of the 25% in gold, stock, and bonds each represent an oft times volatile investment wherein one or two of them can ...

Re: How many brokerage firms are you using?
Thanks for your full response. In regards to the last sentence you wrote, it is clear that you do not believe that you do need to be in more than one brokerage for diversification purposes. Craig Rowland's book definitely emphasized using more than one. Vinny Two. I only meant to have Vanguard, but ...

Re: How many brokerage firms are you using?
Thanks for the excellent response. I have no problem with staying the course as I've been with the same allocation plan I established with Vanguard in January 2003, not making a single change to it. It has served me well but I don't need to experience another Summer 2008 to Winter 2009 with it. EVER...

Relatively new to the Forum but I'm gathering that the Tyler below and the Tyler here: https://portfoliocharts.com/about/....are one and the same? Vinny PeaktoTrough.com still works fine for me. But if you're looking for other sources, Portfolio Charts has Permanent Portfolio data going back to 1970.

Re: How many brokerage firms are you using?
To just get started, I am thinking of fulfilling as much of the Permanent Portfolio investing through my present Vanguard accounts. Then later I may transfer some of the investments to Fidelity. But to just immediately become a full fledged Level 4 Permanent Portfolio investor seems too consuming. S...

Could you specify which two? Curious if either is on the book's list: 1. iShares Gold ETF (Ticker: IAU) 2. StreetTracks Gold ETF (Ticker: GLD) 3. Physical Swiss Gold ETF (Ticker: SGOL) 4. Sprott Physical Gold Trust (Ticker: PHYS) 5. Central Fund of Canada (Ticker: CEF) 6. Central Gold Trust of Canad...

How do you invest the gold portion?
I am soon to be a Level 4 investor. The book advises that the best way to invest in gold is to own it. However, initially, that would take some time to fully implement. Therefore, to get started I am strongly thinking of the book's alternative gold recommendation... The following exchange-traded fun...

How do you invest the bond portion?
I am soon to be a Level 4 Permanent Portfolio investor. The book states: Buying Bonds There are three basic ways to buy U.S. Treasury long-term bonds: 1. At auction from the Treasury. 2. On the secondary market. 3. Through a bond fund. Which of the three do you do? And, if #3, what specific funds ar...

How do you invest the stock portion?
I am soon to be a Level 4 Permanent Portfolio Investor. I plan to use Vanguard Total Stock Market and Fidelity Total Stock Market. Re: How do you invest the Cash portion?
Thank you for the response. And regarding point #2 below. I would NOT be tempted to chase cash. Vinny Welcome to the forum. I think the...

Re: How do you invest the Cash portion?
It seems that if one is a single person (with no trust) then the I Bond limit is $10,000 plus $5,000 via using a tax refund (which would, of course, require one to overpay taxes by at least $5,000)? How do you invest the Cash portion?
I am ready to fully embrace The Permanent Portfolio as described in Craig Rowland and J.M. Lawson's The Permanent Portfolio book.
