Re: The Parable of the Talents

It's kind of weird that the Comments section doesn't seem to mention the BoutrosBoutros Ghali text, or whatever it's called.
I pasted a paragraph into a text file, but it repeated over and over.
I think I'll pass. : - )
Tenn's excerpt, however, does look interesting.

Re: cash as an underperform asset that could get rid of.

An important rule of investing is: don't get greedy. So true And isn't it a good feeling to have a large wad of cash, ready to be spent? Unlike stocks or bonds, where one always wonders when to get out. I always remind myself that ultimately, cash is the goal. It's why we invest in the first place.

Wow is that a hillbilly toothpick, i.e. a raccoon's baculum (penile bone) I see on the right? I didn't know those were used for fortune telling!

Maybe he has a a few million in retirement gold that he wants to draw down and figured: why pay a dealer the spread when I can be the dealer myself?
I'm sure that's it.  ;) It's not like setting up the business is a hassle or anything.

Re: Stocks and Bonds Decline

I had the same question.  Free shipping and 1% markup??  How does this guy stay in business??  They do have an A+ rating from the BBB and I did not see any complaints.  Has anyone ordered from this company? Nothing against buygoldandsilversafely or Doug E Fresh, but I don't trust the BBB the way I ...

Re: cash as an underperform asset that could get rid of.

A strong dollar is clearly bad for a lot of other things, like multinational companies' shares. But, if the dollar is so strong, it seems like there should be something beneficial in holding a few of them. Anyway, Arturo, congratulations on being the 263,748th person to suggest dumping cash. Mountainer, I thought of you while flipping through my new National Geographic. On one of the early pages, there's a brief Q&A with a man who is both the director of some genome project and also the founder(?) of biologos dot org, a website where science and Christianity meet.

You are on a tear this weekend, MG!

Some of these links are going to bleed into each other when I sleep tonight, and I'll likely dream of anti-poacher drones used to assassinate sexual predators.

I see. I've got a solo 401(k) in which I can put in whatever I want, so there are some gold ETF shares in there. I do prefer coins in a safe deposit box. I should hurry up and buy more so I can repress all memory of the 4-5% markup for the rest of my life. ; - )

Re: Stocks and Bonds Decline

I have something similar to yours, Budd. A pp core that I don't tinker with, but a larger vp -- no gold in mine -- that means 8-10% gold in (vp +pp).  The pp is becoming a larger % of the total, and maybe one day there will be no vp. Wow, you too?!! { img : you are doomed } LO...

Re: Ting for Cell Phone Service (Potential Cost Saver)

There have been some articles about this trend by the way. The theme is, first they cut the cord and now some want to cut cellular. Of course not everyone can live on wi-fi alone. I didn't have a cell phone at all until a few years ago.

You have no landline that you could link Google Voice to, correct? Because I used that for long distance and it worked like a charm.
What about Skype Out?

I'm always leery of some of the super cheap options because for me the sound quality becomes an issue.

Re: Stocks and Bonds Decline

( quoting Buddtholomew ) 5% is hardly a PP, 10% is acceptable as I too only hold 1/10 of my portfolio in gold. (end quote) 10% is acceptable according to you, but is definitely not a PP.  You either have a PP or you don't... That reminds me something I read or heard about a masturbation survey. Not...
