Re: NFL National Anthem Controversy

And if you dug into it a bit, I bet you'd find that the same multinational corporations whose vast array of subsidiaries own everything else in the western hemisphere own the NFL players as well. But you aren't hearing anybody protesting about being bought and sold by the elites when those multi-mi...

Re: Urgent! Heading to ER, surprise bills

Health insurance is pretty close to a complete racket. If you have it, then you think you "save" a lot of money, but you don't. If you were self-pay you'd get services even more cheaply. Back when I was self-employed and decided to take the chance of being without health insurance for a c...

Re: NFL National Anthem Controversy

So when these 250-pound children start grandstanding around the National Anthem, they simply show the world how really stupid they are. Exactly. And isn't that big Afro that Colin Kaepernick (who started it all) wears really cool? What I want to know is how the heck you stuff all that hair inside a...

Re: Urgent! Heading to ER, surprise bills

Having a capitalistic health care system means that the patient would be the customer, which means that consumer sovereignty would reign, as it does in every other capitalistic market. I agree in principle with your libertarian view of health care but lately I'm becoming more of a pragmatist than a...

Urgent! Heading to ER, surprise bills

This isn't me. I just saw this post over on Bogleheads. I hope he's okay but can you imagine sending out an urgent message like this, presumably from your cell phone, while you are on your way to the ER? I have no idea what his physical problem is but I can feel his pain as far as his financial worr...

Re: Tax Puzzle

I would take what's behind door number 2 - claim the loss. The rationale would be because death and taxes are the only sure things in the world and if I have the opportunity to reduce my taxes and save money today, I'm probably going to do it. No telling what is going to happen to those assets in th...

It was written by a Socialist trying to indoctrinate schoolchildren to be loyal to the all-powerful national government. Here's what it looked like: https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BasKB5lX0dQ/TsqBpwPUyMI/AAAAAAAADHk/nI9AFooRNMI/s1600/Bellamy2.jpg Horrifying. So, yes, "Under God" was a later a...

Re: NFL National Anthem Controversy

Ok, I'll try to explain more calmly. First, these football players aren't snowflakes. None of us would last a minute in a college practice, let alone an NFL practice. These guys are modern day gladiators, sacrificing their present and future health for fame and cash, all to entertain us couch potat...

Re: NFL National Anthem Controversy

The NFL players are a lot more valuable to the average fan than the old billionaire owners. The NFL is entertainment, and fans aren't tuning in to watch old, white, political, draft-dodging snowflakes whining about their hurt feelings. Don't really understand your point. Fans aren't tuning in to wa...

I've used SGOL, IAU, and physical but recently I dropped the SGOL and went with just the latter two. Don't actually remember why I made that move, to tell you the truth. I think IAU was the original recommendation in the Harry Browne book so that's why I went with it. He preferred physical gold, of ...

I wonder if this is related in any way to all the emails I've been getting from Vanguard about switching my account to a brokerage account by November 3. I have no idea what that's all about because I was on vacation in Australia and Hawaii and haven't looked into it yet.

Re: Scientists witness huge cosmic crash, find origins of gold

The crash, called a kilonova, generated a fierce burst of gamma rays and a gravitational wave, a faint ripple in the fabric of space and time, first theorized by Albert Einstein. The signal arrived on Earth on Aug. 17 after traveling 130 million light-years. A light-year is 5.88 trillion miles. So ...

Is it common for institutions with reams of highly sensitive data to use open source software??? Given what they're holding, Equifax's security should be more like the NSA, the Pentagon, and major banks like Chase. It shouldn't be run like a video game company.
