Re: Stock scream room

And, yeah, all you retired 60 and 70 and 80 year olds living on a bit of interest from your savings and bonds, because you're trying to be safe, sorry. The market is way more important than you. Are you saying the fed should prop up interest rates for retirees who shun stocks? I am saying if the ec...

Re: Stock scream room

And Trump adding more fuel to the fire hammering the Fed both more rate cuts and QE. I'm telling you, stimulus the likes of which we have never seen is going to be unleashed, and it's all going to wind up in stocks: "The Federal Reserve is cutting but must further ease and, most importantly, come i...

Re: Stock scream room

Another interesting stat to look at, that also kind of limits stocks downside.... yield. Current 10 year yield: 1.06%. SPY 30 day SEC yield: 1.94% SPY now has almost double the yield as the 10 year. SPY is also positive vs inflation where bonds are negative. Can we really have a lasting 40-50% or m...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

I know there are Trump supporters on this forum, please tell me how how the democrat hoax statement plays to you. I sat with my 80+ year old parents yesterday, with Fox in the background. And they believe this. They believe the democrats are responsible. They believe if the borders were secure we wo...

Re: Stock scream room

This will not last forever, but it will take the Fed painting themselves into a corner before that correlation breaks. For now they still have all the firepower they need. I got you. But I'm thinking if anything breaks this trend it is this virus. Financial crisis, internet bubble, irrational exube...

Re: Stock scream room

pmward, I'm still not getting it. If, say, Apple comes out with projected earnings that are less than last year, in a normal world, would that not mean their stock price should be less than last year? What does QE or rates or stimulus have to do with that, unless the govt is directly buying stock? W...

Re: Stock scream room

After this current drop, the market is back to where it was.... in October, 4 months ago.

Maybe the performance up and to the right that started right around there is clearing itself out? It was a bit crazy.

Re: Stock scream room

If this gets out of control in the US, and everything right now points to that... Where did you read that? Mick Mulvaney, a little while ago: "Are you going to see some schools shut down? Probably. Maybe see impacts on public transportation? Sure, but we do this. We know how to handle this," Mulval...

I just figured that was obvious. I could be wrong. No way draconian travel restrictions like China is able to do will fly here, until it's too late to stop the spread.

Re: Stock scream room

However, something temporary like a virus will not warrant a 40-50% correction. This will not be another 2008. The market went up nearly 30% last year. Why do you think it can't fall 40-50%? If this gets out of control in the US, and everything right now points to that, I don't care what kind of st...

Re: The GOLD scream room

4 days and no gold scream room discussion, interesting. tech, I was wondering what your thoughts are over the past 2-3 days where gold has languished. It was upsetting to me this morning to see it down again, but then I ran a 3 month comparison and felt better. I know there is no 1:1 guaranteed inve...

Re: What would it take to cause you to lose faith in the PP?

Which brings me to my question: For those who do follow the charts on a daily basis, is there any economic condition or chart pattern that would make you begin to doubt the ongoing viability of the PP? Is there anybody that is pulling out and going to cash, even temporarily? Three days ago my portf...

Re: What would it take to cause you to lose faith in the PP?

Everything is going to be fine. Seriously. Stocks may go down another 10%.... maybe even another 20% if things get really hairy. But they will rebound quickly. The Fed will do whatever it takes. I honestly would not be surprised to get an emergency 25-50bp cut in the next week or two. I think this ...

Re: Stock scream room

mathjak, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the recent decline. This feels like a longer term decline and not a blip, at least for now. Every time you think the market was going to snap back the past couple days it went the opposite. I would guess there will be relief rallies, but I also see comp...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

It is interesting to see the blaming. Can't even unify on something like this, jerks. I can't think of anything that has such potential to crush the world's economy as a virus that can shut everything down for months. Terrorists, war, natural disasters, all are more localized and sharp shocks that s...

Re: The GOLD scream room

Interesting that gold is getting crushed back down but bonds are holding. Yes, gold is getting "crushed back down" to being up only $16 on the day. Woe is me! Crushed was a hard word, but when you consider that stocks held their losses, bonds held their gains, and gold did this in the afternoon, it...

Re: The GOLD scream room

Today is a shining example of the calming effect of the PP. Gold and bonds more than making up for the stock massacre.
