Re: Evolution discussion
P.S. You could always watch Hitchens debate Rev Al Sharpton on youtube. He destroys. My 11 year old granddaughter might be able to destroy Sharpton ... no offense to the Sharpton lovers. ;) Never mind Sharpton's half of the debate. Hitchens destroys intransitively. He's a pleasure to listen to. So...

Re: Evolution discussion
This article has some interesting observations about the "big bang". "But over the past decades, the big bang theory has proven to be quite pliable. When it was first introduced, the “big bang”? was sometimes an object of ridicule. But over the past decades, it has proven to be quite pliable, morphi...

One more quick comment: I know I'm just one of many in this thread, but I do want to say that I'd prefer to have this thread be more about evolution and less about religion. I know the two can sometimes feel inseparable, but as much as possible, I'd love to focus in on how some of you have manage...

Re: Evolution discussion
Is evolution the right answer? If it's wrong, the right answer certainly isn't "God did it". And you absolutely positively know this how? The right answer certainly could be "God did it" if God did indeed did do it. It seems to me the answer "God did it" is a valid hypothesis that unbelievers sh...

Re: Evolution discussion
... how thankful I am to have a way out of this world's messes to a new perfect creation of eternal joy and peace. Did this desire influence your decision to believe in (a) God? Or did your belief in (a) God come first? That is sort of a chicken and egg question. :) But my answer is, belief in God ...

Re: Evolution discussion
Here is a question for the evolution supporters: Is this the next "natural" step in human evolution? Why or why not and/or any other thoughts you have on the subject? My perspective is this is just one example in a very long string of examples on how "cursed" mankind is after the incident in the ...

Re: Evolution discussion
I don't want to derail from evolution, but briefly: OK if you wish to believe that. But I still don't understand how that makes it "right" to rule out "God did it" as an alternative to evolution. Think of it this way: if you have to rule out everything proposed that cannot be disproven, there are ...

Suggestion: If you have not read the previous Letters, posted earlier in this thread, I suggest you do so prior to reading subsequent Letters. Each Letter, a short chapter in the book "What They Need to Hear" by Klemet Preus tends to build on prior material. They begin with " Preface " in my Augus...

Re: Evolution discussion
It seems to me the answer "God did it" is a valid hypothesis that unbelievers should not rule out until they can prove that God had no part in it (however one wishes to define "it"). The existence of God cannot be disproven, and therefore can never be a part of science. - Karl Popper OK if you wis...

Thank you for the reply. It is very interesting, a very interesting hypothesis. The second subject dealing with thalidomide makes sense. I can buy that one as I expect it is reproduceable in a controlled experiment (Yuck to ponder the ethics of that one!). The first, as I said, very interesting...

Well internet friends and acquaintances, I am enjoying one more day on the bright side of the grass. Coffee, eggs, sausage, and a V8. I have reflected on the gift of my baptism where I was washed by water and the Word ... although I do not remember it at all and cannot really objectively prove it ...

Do you think Hillary would settle for $1300 a month, week, day, hour, minute, second? I am so very enamored with "real" people!

I absolutely love the way that Thomas Paine tears into the Bible. The only modern day author that I have seen and read that could compare is Christopher Hitchens. doodle, Perhaps this will be of benefit to you; I hope and pray so. I do think the watch analogy is an unfortunate one in that it is a very powerful image & idea that spreads easily, but from the viewpoint of an athiest or agnostic it is steering people in the wrong direction. Watch and machine parts are so...static. They are made and then they just sit there aside...

I'll agree that an all-powerful God can make anything happen... But the age of the earth is of utmost impor...
