Re: YouTube Junkie
Ariana Grande - One Last Time This one is actually pretty interesting. The video chronicles the journey of Ariana Grande's butt as it makes its way through post-apocalyptic crowds and structures. The butt defends itself against attacks from wizards, and emerges from the depths of horror to witness ...

Re: Way to show some Gratitude
If we could put all murderous Israelis and all murderous Muslims on an island and bomb it, perhaps then it would be ok I don't know. I'd really miss all three of those Israelis. No, seriously, I appreciate the reply. I don't think of any part of that text as "rhetoric", but I have a bette...

Re: Way to show some Gratitude
No. People should be able to talk about war without authorities being called. However, not without being called out on exactly what they're doing in the guise of caring about skin banks. I might disappear soon because I'm being called away for Chinese food with the wife and sister-and-law. (Jewis...

Re: Way to show some Gratitude
Um... the article is less about the skin bank and more about the woman who wanted to attack it, and how we are "at war" with Muslims. War implies bombs and doling death. I think it's great that a society has a skin bank, and disgusting that this would be a target of attack. But that isn't...

If all investment returns are paltry, i am sure that your house belongs to that category, too. Buying a deprecating asset with leverage is not a good idea. :) Rent and accumulate cash. ~~ Hi Frommi I own my home free & clear. Always have. The home equity loan was a choice I made since rates wer...

Anyone contributing to LTT's as we watch the Santa Claus rally in equities? No I'm not buying those, but I don't understand the significance of the stock "rally." I mean, I'm not enjoying this stock see-saw. Are you? The S&P is not great compared to last year. Not impressed. http://fi...

I can see Moda's in the Christmas spirit, LOL. There's a goddamn skin bank on this earth, and you want to bury that and turn this into one more rubber stamp thread about Israel bombing Palestine? Oh well, your choice.

Thanks, rick. I think I'm getting closer. I'm hijacking, but although I have considered the likelihood of "paltry returns ahead", it's a ten-year loan. I figure when the time comes that I need to buy a bunch of new 30-year bonds, the rate will be at least the rate of my loan. The cash port...

Re: Paltry returns ahead
If you pay off a debt with a 3.5% interest rate, that's mathematically equivalent to putting your debt payments into a zero-risk investment vehicle with a 3.5% return. Ok. I don't get it. Now "mathematically equivalent" has been added to the statement. That hasn't really cleared things up...

Jealous. I was seven when the original ("IV") came out in '77 so of course I was a fanatic like my contemporaries. I am no longer that ardent a fan, but would like to see it in the theater in all its 70mm glory (the new Tarantino, also). Alas, the theater nearest me that has it also has a ...

That's the problem with our society. People view cash flows due to debt as "getting something. It is not. Ok, but when you wrote But paying it is 3.5% return risk free. Better than 30 year Treasury. Maybe you could amplify that, because I'm paying it, not receiving it. Why is paying it 3.5% re...

Not sure how to calculate the "return" of getting 100K up front. It's worth something.ochotona wrote: Hard to answer the HELOC question out of context. But paying it is 3.5% return risk free. Better than 30 year Treasury.
But of course, paying it is minus 3.5%.

I shouldn't even ask, b/c it's so ephemeral, but still.

Dow down > 2%
TLT up .56%

Re: Confused when to rebalance
I don't get it I think. Why contribute in the same proportions instead of the other way around to get back into the desired 25/25/25/25? (so contribute 20/30/25/25 if you are currently at 30/20/25/25)? I don't think there's anything wrong with contributing inverted proportions as you're suggesting....

I've never seen or thought of that before. What an interesting idea.Xan wrote: Another option is to contribute proportionally, that is, if you're at 30/20/25/25, then contribute in the same proportions. This is the option that prevents contributions from affecting the timing of your rebalances.

I did a lot of research a while back when looking for a decent gun safe and settled on an AmSec BF , as it provides both burglary + fire protection. A google image search of the bolded words turned up this tornado-surviving safe. Cool: http://www.amsecusa.com/amsec-bf-gun-safe-survives-oklahoma-tor...
