Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

Now you're going to tell us that coconut oil is bad too! Say it ain't so! I don't use coconut oil anymore. I prefer butter. It occurred to me that the low carb and anti-grain movement was built on bullshit when they told us that gluten was bad because it supposedly promoted intestinal permeability,...

I hope you will contribute more to the  finance-related threads here on the PP board, as I think you are one of the best-informed folks around. Good financial nutrition is important, too....  8) Thanks goodasgold. I'd love to, but I've just lost interest in economics for the time being. I found tha...

I'd also point out that even compounds like phytic acid—what we here once feared as being an "anti-nutrient" is now known to have beneficial health properties. It may be related to the fact that phytic acid is believed to chelate excess "free" iron in the bloodstream and tissues....

1) What are the main fundamental reasons one should eat grains when we can get resistant starch and micronutrients from other sources? There is no requirement to eat grains. You can do well without them—it's just a little more challenging (i.e. eating lots of potatoes and greenish bananas). For ins...

I wish I did! I have no idea how to. I'm lucky to have a good bakery nearby! I could use some tips on how to get started. Don't have a ton of time right now, but I'd love to try sometime.

Also.. few people seem to realize that Durum wheat is an "ancient" wheat. So, if you really bought into the weak "modern" wheat theory, you shouldn't have any problem with non-adultured and non-enriched 100% Durum wheat—that is commonly found in European or homemade pastas: Wikip...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

Historical documents were talking about historical wheat which is very different from wheat  today, no? Hi Benko! Nice to hear from you. In my research, and in talking with researchers who have studied wheat closely, I don't find the "modern wheat" hypothesis very convincing. We have mode...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

I recently gave blood to the Red Cross. I had moderate iron levels. I asked about folks with "high" iron levels. The nurse said she barely ever sees anyone with too much iron in their blood. Any thoughts on this? Before you give blood they only test your hemoglobin. They don't test ferrit...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

If you use All-Clad, you actually are cooking on a stainless steel that's 10% nickel. I trust your knowledge of metals. Read that stainless link I posted in my comment and notice the vinegar taste test they did on All-Clad vs. Cheap Stainless. If you can explain why the cheap stainless tastes like ...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

The French copper pans are great too, but they are traditionally lined with tin.  I am sure there are studies about tin toxicity. I didn't look particularly hard (since I don't have copper cookware) but I never came across anything that terrible about tin-lined copper cookware. I think it was proba...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

Just a quick correction here: the kind of stainless steel that a magnet sticks to is not the expensive stuff Hmm.. I know nothing about metallurgy, but I suspect you can tell a pan that leaches by the taste. The reason why the French don't typically like to deglaze on exposed cast-iron is because i...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

You too Mark..! I often eat 3 eggs a day with toast. Eggs actually reduce non-heme iron intake within a meal. As does dairy (reduces both heme and non-heme). So, eggs and cheese. 6 or 7 slices of real whole wheat bread per day. Some fruit/veggies. A little bit of butter. Raw milk. A small amount of ...

Btw, there are a few brands of bread that you can find in your local store that grind fresh wheat berries. The best breads tend to be whole organic and in the freezer section. Berlin Bakery is a good one and in most supermarkets. They use spelt wheat (an ancient wheat). Alvarado Street bakery is ano...

Re: Iron is Toxic, Very Toxic -- Avoid At All Costs!

What exactly do you mean by "real whole wheat?" I assume you're not talking about what goes into supermarket whole wheat bread, right? Where do we find the good stuff and how do we know it when we encounter it? 90% of the flour consumed in the US is enriched white flour. Of the 10% of whe...

It's been a long time since I've posted on the forum, and unfortunately I don't have the time to post much these days. I've done a complete 180º since I last gave dietary advice and I can only apologize for peddling in some of the fraudulent dietary advice that I had been spoonfed by the low carb mo...

Re: Cullen Roche interview

I think you can make a good argument, that for a nation like Canada with a central bank fully committed to an inflation targeting scheme (2% a year), that the Medium of Account is well represented by a slice of the basket of goods and services which make up the Canadian CPI, and that slice will shr...

I know you don't agree with him on Gold, or you probably wouldn't be posting on a forum which advocates a 25% allocation.  How do you reconcile that with your belief in MR, and likewise with Cullen?  Seems strange to argue that someone is so sharp, difficult to debate, etc. but that some of his ide...

(Seriously I challenge anyone to go over to monetaryrealism.com and try to debate him). And MR is simply describing the system as it is, so I don't see how it can possibly have "no practical application."  There is nothing tangible to gain from debating theory with no practical applicatio...

Gumby, While I love the "flow" models that help explain our trade deficit and reserve currency status, aren't there other options out there? If we ran big trade surpluses, but decided to divest ourselves of US dollars to diversify, wouldn't that be one way for our dollars to end up on for...
