Re: Facebook is a doomsday machine

Aside from a blog, I have never been on any form of social media. Facebook is something I have regarded from the moment I became aware of its existence, with deep suspicion. And that has long since evolved into a strong conviction that it is deeply sinister.

Re: Bitcoin - they coming for you

There have been multiple, and very credible reports, that Bitcoin has been used on a massive scale for money laundering by organized crime figures. And that there was a lot of price manipulation, again by gangsters, in BC's earlier big moves. I wouldn't touch BC even if I was playing with Donald Tru...

Why Russia Could be the Big Winner in the Climate Crisis

This is an excellent piece. I'm not sure why I never really thought about Russia in the context of climate change. I have typically looked at places like Maine, Oregon, Washington State, Alaska and of course Canada. In the latter half of the 13th century there was a short blast of global warming. Du...

Re: Bill Gross - “Gilligan’s Island” Fan?

Bill Gross was a smart guy when it came to investing, especially in bonds. But I have heard stories over the years that suggested that, like some other famous people, he had an abrasive personality. Not saying he was Steve Jobs kinda bad. But he was not always the easiest person to work with or for.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/republican-electors-pennsylvania-georgia-vote-for-trump Haven't read the story yet Basically they made a pretend unofficial elector vote that doesn't count. It's not news. The actual official electors went the way they were expected. It's over. +1 This was a politic...

I will add two other movies to my highly recommended list. * A Bronx Tale (1993) The bar room brawl scene remains one of my favorites of any film. https://youtu.be/erL2czOyNoc * Downfall (German: Der Untergang) (2003) If you liked the WWII drama Das Boot, you will probably also enjoy this very reali...

Re: What's Trump's next move?

According to multiple sources his next move will be to Florida where he is going to take up residence in or near his golf club. His wife has been scouting private schools in the area for their son Barron. As for what he does between now and January 20th, I am no longer that interested. I assume he w...

Television gameshow "What's My Line" from Sunday September 20, 1959. The guest panelist is Groucho Marx and he pretty much destroys the regulars and guests. I can't believe this got past the censors.

Worst movies you ever saw

A companion thread to the favorite films discussion... My top three worst movies that I actually sat through til the end (in two cases because someone else paid for the ticket) are... 3. House (1986) with the incredibly appropriate theme song "Your no good." 2. Police Academy 3 (1986) The ...

I'm focusing on things I can and must do something about. That's a long list, so I likely won't be hanging around here until and unless I finish up with my list. I wish you all the best of luck, even the trolls. Goodbye. Our political differences notwithstanding, I wish you fair winds and following...

Re: Should Donald Trump Be Charged With Sedition?

One potential reason is that SCOTUS is opting instead to take on the new case filed by Texas, which includes PA and would thus be at least partially redundant with this case that they just denied. We'll find out soon enough, I guess. The Texas suit is being laughed at by legal experts from across t...

US Supreme Court has denied a request to overturn Pennsylvania's election results. The SCOTUS decision consisted of a single sentence and was without dissent.
