Re: 2017 PP Return Poll
Before I answer this, it becomes a bit confusing for me to break down my gains since I'm constantly throwing money into my accounts. My finance software offers up ROI and IRR for possible metrics. For this year, ROI is around 7% while IRR is around 13%. Even after reading up on these, I'm not follow...

It's been happening, slowly but surely. I predict it will be nationwide recreational use within a decade.Libertarian666 wrote:There is a very simple way to reduce this plague noticeably. It even SAVES the government money.

Re: Out of balance
That's quite a pickle. It's one I considered awhile ago when I was contemplating how to divvy my holdings between my taxable account and non-taxable. In my case, I decided to hold my allocations the exact same in each account. The main reason... I can only dump so much into my non-taxable per year a...

What about the coin at 1260...forgot that one eh? See, that prove my point. It's in my possession, I forgot about it. But the ETFs are like video games, they tempt you to buy or sell. This is an interesting, although expected, phenomenon. The less liquid an item is, the less likely we are to be tra...

Re: The GOLD scream room
What can I say after a day like today? Ugh. I look at the long term chart, and I see a shallow bowl forming, the edges are mid-2013 to mid-2018, the middle (bottom) was late 2015. A five year wide bottoming process, in other words. With no guarantees. I've learned not to trust charts, but I hope yo...

I'm waiting for a muggle to ask me about Bitcoin. That's when I'm calling a top. I get the Harry Potter reference, but does that mean a non investor? Yes. I have a few friends that fit this mold and always seem to ask about things right as they've hit their maximum exposure. Not sure why I call the...

Cullen Roche wrote a nice piece on bitcoin yesterday, also has lots of other ideas that resonate with HBs. I kind of like the idea of the addition of a dumbass portfolio to the PP/VP mix. ...with such a new technology everyone is essentially a dumbass and the most dangerous dumbasses are often the ...

Re: Market Capitalization
I think the flaw in your example is that you’re investing equal dollar amounts in the three indexes, but the three indexes represent very different total market capitalizations. Weight your investment in each index by its total market capitalization, and the “paradox” disappears and you’ve basicall...

Market Capitalization
Ok, this is a thought that keeps rattling around in my head and it's making me rethink a few things. When we invest in an indexed ETF (like SPY), our money is skewed towards the equities that have the most market capitalization. I'll use IVV (Large Cap S&P 500), IJH (Mid Cap S&P 400), and IJR (Small...

It's really easy to hate gold. I hated it before owning it. Then when it went down in value almost immediately, I hated it more.
Hating something isn't enough reason for me to sell it, however. I see its value.

False alarm; I was reading it wrong. Even though I googled my own wallet string, that seems to be Marc’s that I was looking at. (Zero bitcoins? Hope he has many wallets). I guess that’s the way the ledger works. Turns out I still have the 0.1 btc. I’m sure I read that wrong a few years ago, too. En...

My point is, I feel that all the talk about gender stereotypes is a bit insulting to some of the things that many women naturally prioritize in their lives. I don't see why if men and women are not exactly the same, they are bad. I have some strong opinions on this topic, but suffice it to say... I...
