Re: The Permanent Supplement Regime
50,000! Was that an experiment, Mark, or did that come from research? I don't know how widespread the recommendation is, but a lot of professionals attack the first sign of any flu like symptoms with a Vitamin D Hammer Here's a bit from the abstract... A colleague of mine and I have introduced vita...

Re: The Permanent Supplement Regime
Strictly for the purposes of this virus season, I did 2 days in a row of 50,000 IU VD3, followed by daily 5,000 IU. That's too high for long term use, but I'll probably maintain it for a few months. Normally I get enough sunshine that I don't supplement. I'll probably stop again when I can get back ...

30 March 2020
While patrolling the deserted streets of Kanab I encountered an officer from the pre-pandemic era.
I was unable to determine when he first encountered the virus. I fear I may be the only survivor.

Re: Would you wear a mask?
While working I wear a full face shield (looks like a clear welder's mask) and a mask. While grocery shopping, I wear a mask and disposable gloves. Ah Pug, I was so hoping you would lead the bandana train. Although I haven't yet tried it out in public. I really hate wearing stuff on my face. But, I...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
I really don't like the idea of wearing much of anything - let alone something covering my face. However... I expect it won't be too long before the social pressure ramps up enough that I won't be able to stop in a grocery store without a mask. With that in mind, I'm working on my pack friendly, re-...

Re: Where you live?
Today I'm living in a nearly empty whorehouse in Williams, AZ. I got the "Best Gal's" room. https://www.redgarter.com I did a social distancing hike in the backyard this morning. All of the National Parks in Arizona and Utah are open with no entrance fees - and also no services and virtual...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
About three years ago, I got tired of trying to find barbers in whatever random country I was in - and then getting either some version of the local haircut or whatever they assumed an American should look like. So, I've been carrying hair cutting scissors for a while now and can give myself a relia...

DON'T GO OUTSIDE BAREFOOT!!! Paging Mark Leavy... Yea. I'm definitely staying away from shoes now. The only time I ever trip or stumble is if I have some damn thing on my foot. I was in an all day board meeting today (video conference). On the patio outside my hotel room - barefoot and with a nice ...

Re: A CombiBar Thread
This is a genuine question, not a challenge: Let’s say you wanted to buy or sell a single unit, a gram of gold from one of these “bars” which is actually a thin card of gold. Other than trying to find a reputable dealer, how would you test to make sure that piece is real gold? What tools would be b...

Re: Transitioning from a Boglehead 60/40 to Permanent Portfolio
I suspect the accelerating stock returns since corporations started getting really popular have a lot to do with how productive humans have become with fossil fuels. If that is correct, and what we do with them has pretty much reached a mature state, I could see total stock returns being stagnant. ...

So you're eating around 85g of protein? Actually closer to 50 or 60. As I've been lifting for a long time, I didn't expect to be able to recover with so (relatively) little protein, but so far, so good. We'll see if it keeps up. I think the enormous amount of saturated fat and cholesterol I'm eatin...

Yes, the keto diet is the most effective treatment for epilepsy that exists apart from resective brain surgery. It gets a higher response rate than anticonvulsant medications or implanted devices - about 75% response rate compared to 50% or less for these other treatments. It is also used in the IC...

The fires are on the East Coast. Perth is on the West Coast. You can't imagine how large Australia is. You have to see it to believe it.
