Re: Govt Appointed (Death) Panel Makes A Ruling
My opinion about the whole "death panel" thing is that if you don't like the idea of government bureaucrats making decisions about your healthcare then be ready to pay for it yourself. If the medical treatment is being paid for with public money then I don't see any way that rationing does...

Re: Clarification on fish oil dosing (and stuff cont'd from supplement thread)
I'll repeat my own anecdotal evidence as I did on the other thread on supplements that 1000mg of fish (actually krill) oil had an observable effect on me in the form of easy bruising and purpuras on my forearms. I will never take it in that large of a dose again.

Re: Record High in U.S. Say Big Government Greatest Threat
Two reasons people didn't vote for Ron Paul for President: 1. The Republican National Committee (spit) cheated Ron Paul out of any chance to get the R nomination. 2. Almost no one will vote for someone who isn't a R or D, because that is "throwing their vote away". As to why they voted fo...

Record High in U.S. Say Big Government Greatest Threat

Re: Supplements
6. And I never understand statements like this one: "I took fish oil for a long time (actually 1000mg krill oil) and the only thing I noticed was easy bruising and frequent purpura's on my forearms." What benefits were you expecting? For most supplements you will not notice any differen...

Re: Supplements
How about just eating natural, unprocessed, organic, clean food instead? And as a result: Bypass the whole issue. Good point, but that does not replace the need for EVERYONE taking fish oil and vit D. Vit K perhaps as well. Wasn't there just a study or two casting doubt on the benefits of fish oil...

All good points, thank you., Golf is all I do for leisure and the club is social as well. I agree with the debt part and my plan this year is to work off the 105k student loan. The rest of the debt is mortgage. If I pull money to pay off that, I will pay taxes since it is in IRA money. I thought yo...

Re: Left Fidelity
I used to get those calls from Fidelity every year but they never tried to sell me an annuity. They wanted to offer me a personalized investment service for a 2% cut. I asked them what would be the difference between that and just buying one of their target date funds, besides the extra 2% cost. He...

Re: Environmentalism poses a problem for libertarian ideology
I think the reason for this is because a common trait of libertarians is a love of efficiency . The bottom line is that pollution is inefficient. In my experience, Republicans tend not to care much for efficiency as long as it appears that resources are unlimited, while democrats pay it lip service...

Re: Variable Annuity
That seems really high to me too. Spending some time pruning unnecessary expenditures could pay some real dividends in the form of a smaller portfolio needed to support your lifestyle. I'm with PS. Been doing everything I can to cut down expenses as I approach retirement. It makes my head hurt to t...

Re: May you live in interesting times....
Ive always thought the idea that this is a Chinese curse is an apocryphal one. Think about it: curser and cursee live in the same era. Unless maybe it's a guy on his deathbed cursing a child. Well, I heard it from the writer John Derbyshire who is married to a Chinese lady and lived there for many ...

Re: Environmentalism poses a problem for libertarian ideology
There are a lot of good articles refuting the dangers that libertarianism presents to the environment. They can be found by googling easy enough. Just read where they are now predicting 30 years of severe winter storms. Sometimes I can't believe how shameless the global warming climate change folks ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
The moment we start thinking we've got it all figured out is the moment we need to remind ourselves of the gospel. Couldn't agree with that more. Paul said "Now we see through a glass darkly" so it never ceases to amaze me how dogmatic people can be about spiritual things of which they ha...

Re: Variable Annuity
I don't think I would give up an annuity like that but I also don't think anyone can offer advice without knowing some more details, like how long before you retire and start collecting the money and do you have other assets? In my case it's only a few years before I retire and we DO have other asse...

Re: U.S. general who opened Guantanamo prison says shut it down
Say What? You mean it's still open.... To overcome extremism, we must also be vigilant in upholding the values our troops defend – because there is no force in the world more powerful than the example of America. That is why I have ordered the closing of the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, and w...

The title was an ancient Chinese curse. http://politicker.com/2013/12/bill-de-blasio-walks-away-from-white-house-meeting-with-sweeping-national-hopes/ If you can sit back as a casual observer and not become too emotionally invested the current political climate is an interesting one to behold. Re: Plumbing by Legislation
I was supposed to call the inspector AFTER the job was done to come and inspect mine but I never did. So I guess I'm now guilty of running an unauthorized water heater. Probably. And I am sure the fine is many dollars per day of unauthorized operation. Damn, never thought of that. Now that I'm an ...

Re: Plumbing by Legislation
I am not so sure about the value of permits. I had a gas water heater installed a few years ago. Stayed home from work for the city inspector's visit. The inspector and I had a nice chat about various things. I do not recall him inspecting the water heater. I was supposed to call the inspector...

They haven't done the water thing where I live (Florida) but if you get a remodeling permit you have to buy hurricane shutters. The previous owner added a porch and so I now have a bunch of pre-cut plywood shutters sitting in my garage along with the hardware to mount them. I would have no clue how ...

Where does Neanderthal man fit into the Adam and Even/Garden of Eden narrative? Was the Garden of Eden a paradise for Cro-Magnon man only? Mountaineer, maybe you can help me resolve something that's been bugging me today. I mean, Jesus spoke heavily about how one should act while ...

Serious question: I currently have this dog . He is the sweetest creature I have ever encountered, human or otherwise. He is now about 9.5 years old. Re: Do most people tend to accumlate money in their cash portion?
Most of my new money goes into 401k's for me and my wife. That all goes into stock because it's the only PP friendly thing available.
I do also accumulate cash and if I get enough I might buy some physical gold.
