Re: Gold Purchase!

It’s interesting because it’s almost like you have to diversify your gold portfolio to manage its own set of risk. Would love to have a good (and somewhat liquid) Canadian allocated gold option.

Also do any of the oversees etf’s trigger fatca reporting requirements?

Gold Purchase!

Can folks maybe just put a one liner on their choice how to purchase gold and with what company? I've been doing research and have a bit of a list. I may consolidate the list somewhere online. Re: How do real estate holding play in the PP

owning real estate is akin to owning a business ..it plays no part in our portfolio's ..in fact our portfolio is the place we put the money we make from our real estate .. we have been liquidating all our real estate the past decade ... we don't want to be landlords in retirement and we want only t...

Re: Moving into the PP

I agree. The best time to invest in a PP is during a long run of prosperity. At the very top! Maybe like right now. Good move if you're within 5 years of retirement. The 60/40 took 3.5 years to get back to even after the Tech Crash. The Shiller CAPE is at 30. Money printing, Record debt levels, etc...

Re: Moving into the PP

Interesting. Usually, people seek out the PP after stocks crash, not before, which is unfortunate. We won't know until a long time from now, but this seems like a fortuitous time to have some non-stock allocation, with the pp being a good example*. I think you might be wiser than the average bear.I...

Re: Moving into the PP

pmward, you're right about EDV having more oomph than TLT, but...beware holding it in a taxable account. It's had some giant December payouts in the past. If you instead buy a zero coupon Treasury directly, realize that you owe taxes on the interest as it accrues, but can't access said interest unt...

Re: Moving into the PP

ppnewbie: Your residential real estate is a business, not an investment. The market for your business is highly localized and relatively ill-liquid—which means your principal is not guaranteed and cannot be converted into cash overnight. Also, the income stream from your rental is not guaranteed. I...

Re: Moving into the PP

Welcome PPnewbie! It sounds to me like you're looking for a less volatile alternative to 100% stocks, but you're not yet sold on the PP. In which case, the best thing to do may be more research/reading before you touch anything. Try reading the epic "Permanent Portfolio" thread on Boglehe...

Re: How do real estate holding play in the PP

Perfect thanks for the reply. That's kind of what I was thinking. Although my investments are not levered at all and cash flow about 8 to 10 percent a year.

How do real estate holding play in the PP

Question: I have a decent sized real estate portfolio with a recent new opportunity coming up. Is there anyway to integrate this into the portfolio. Like say maybe treat them as long term bonds because the real estate is cash flow real estate. It’s not liquid but would also have long term treasuries...

Re: Moving into the PP

It’s funny my brain keeps groping for a pattern to predict the future. Demographics, Fed balance sheets, Chinese debt levels, coming boom in new innovations...etc, etc...I’m still working on taming this beast. Funny I barely even understand half of what I’m reading! Just saw a good video on youtube ...

Re: Hello Everyone

Im deciding betwixt Perth online depository (1% buy/sell fee) and their ETF. I think you have to tell the IRS about amounts over 10k Rickards and RealVision gets $ from gold sellers so be aware they wont give balanced opinions Thanks 1 percent buy / sell seems reasonable (from my small sample size ...

Re: Moving into the PP

This is super helpful. Especially the last comment by pmward. Based on these responses, I realize pretty much my feeling of buying something that feels scary is what the PP and it’s rebalancing philosophy is all about. If I think I should not rebalance into long term bonds because they seem like the...

Re: Hello Everyone

Thanks for the info Hal. And the info about the deposit insurance was also very helpful. Been reading through the faqs and forums and I now see I’m questions we’ll covered in this forum. Going to scour the forum and read Craig’s book.

Thanks!

Moving into the PP

Hello everyone. I am semi new to the PP concept. I have a decent sized investment portfolio that is pretty much all stocks. I am in the process of allocating some of the portfolio into gold with new cash. This seems ideal because the gold price is relatively cheap. But I am worried about starting to...

Re: Hello Everyone

Thanks alot for the info. So for Perth Mint is there any general consensus on which is best: the online depository, depository program (offline by phone), or the certificate program? And finally what do people think about Perth Mints ETF AAAU vs the depositories? (I know I am asking alot of question...

Hello Everyone

I am semi new to the PP. I am sure this topic has come up many times before but I'll ask it again and then do another search to see if it comes up on the message board. Can someone point me to the best place to purchase physically allocated gold with preferably the ability to store the gold in anoth...
