No, sorry, I didn't mean to imply that. Was just acknowledging the implication in my statement.

Re: My money owns me

This type of thing is a luxury I'd be able to afford. I loathe commercial air travel, but the step up to any kind of private solution is an order of magnitude more expensive. Maybe a binary order of magnitude but not a decimal one. Perhaps things have changed since I looked, or I was looking at the...

Re: When the cops are the criminals

It isn't quite as clear for actions that take place off duty, when the officer is acting as an ordinary citizen. Whether or not a crime is prosecuted, and whether the officer/suspect is guilty or innocent, shouldn't have anything to do with his status as a policeman unless it related to being a pol...

...any number of things could have killed their kid, and if they had cared enough, they could have prevented it. True, but those other things didn't. In this case, it was the actions of the officer that triggered the outcome. Agree that the parents made a poor choice, but I also believe that those ...

Lesson: never let anyone else "manage" your domain for you. Register it yourself. Isn't this true of most things in life? No one else is as invested as you are, as is likely to mess it up. I keep a personal domain for email, and use KolabNow as a host. One day I'll just set up my own mail server, b...

Welcome! I'm curious, how much effort goes into maintaining all of this? One of the nice things about the HBPP is it's incredibly low-maintenance.

How much time do you spend maintaining your allocations in a given month?

If you have an account, I believe APMEX will keep a history....I believe mine goes back 8 years or so. I've bought PMs from a few places, but always been happy with APMEX. Depending what you're buying (and whether you're willing to buy what's cheap/on offer), I haven't found their prices to be far o...

She was addressing Republicans in the context of Republican voters, not Republican politicians. That is what I understood and was responding to. I think it's a disservice to our country to label individual voters as being "in" a party, vs voting for one (or voting for a candidate who's a member of ...

I live in Seattle. If I didn't have friends who didn't vote for Trump, I'd have no friends. Then again, I've dealt with hostile work environments at multiple companies as a "closet" Trump supporter/voter. Add me to the list of people not unsurprised, but also "terrified" Yeah, if it's accurate (proponents are intentionally dodgy on any hard numbers) the $4mm number is insane. For reference, the median home price in San Francisco is currently $1.7mm and lots of people are paid in stock options that ar...

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

How do you ever achieve accountability if the public isn't allowed to see what's going on? It seems likely that if the public knew where the $21 trillion missing from the DOD and HUD budgets went (see Professor Mark Skidmore's analysis on this), all hell would break loose on the DC establishment, a...

Re: Is Trump doing a good job?

I'm not sure if I'm this cynical or not, but does it really matter? Even if we have visibility to where the money is going, is the accountability there? Don't get me wrong - I think transparency is important, but at this stage I'm not convinced it impacts the outcome in any way. Not just important,...

Also, it's distressing to me that we've heard absolutely nothing from Trump on the subject of FASAB 56, which effectively took all of the government's accounting records dark. The history of math and science is interesting. Still, in *math* class, I suspect math majors (graduates) would prefer to just teach math. My first-year college calculus class had a "history of math" extension (one hour a week in the evenings) as part of the honors program. I found it very interest...

Maple Leafs scratch like crazy. Even rubbing them with a cotton cloth will cause damage. If you drop one on the table it will ding. On the floor... Probably it bends in half.

You actually shouldn't have any concerns from an insurance standpoint. Both Uber and Lyft provide $1m liability insurance that covers passengers during the time they are being taxied around at terms very similar to a commerical/taxi policy. The cost comes out of the portion that Uber and Lyft retai...

Those of you who use Uber and Lyft, do you have any concerns about insurance/what happens if something goes awry? I tend to use car services/avoid ride sharing for that reason. I don't trust the driver has insurance that actually covers what they're doing (commercial, vs personal use), and don't wan...
