Re: Libertarians of Reddit

Really, I think I personally see forward movement as inevitable. The past is gone. So why fight it? Since both liberalism and conservatism are moving targets, conservatives always lose eventually. Liberals always win eventually. Todays conservatism is yesterdays liberalism, and todays liberalism is...

Re: Libertarians of Reddit

Right. Like none of the "left" views you see from us here are "progressive" or "democratic socialist" or whatever. I think we seem "left" only in the context of the norm of this board. But in actuality Me, doodle, Vinny, glennds, Corto, etc are all more moderate than anything. My views piss far left...

Looks like Barr will "step down" after a private meeting with Trump at the White House.

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

To cling to a dying industry instead of investing into blossoming industries? To also risk us losing our seat as the #1 country for innovation by discouraging workers from moving to these newer more lucrative industries? I feel this everytime I hear someone mention coal....like, really? The future ...

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

Why is it that Apple in recent years has been moving manufacturing back to the U.S.? Why is it that companies like Taiwan Semiconductor and FoxConn made moves in recent years to produce in the U.S.? You seriously don't know the answer to that question???? It's because the Trump administration force...

I work with a guy from India, and he plans on moving back when he retires. He has been putting tons of money into Indian money markets lately because he is getting like 4-5% interest on cash there. Pretty crazy. What I would do to get a guaranteed risk free 4-5% return on cash???

Haven't read the story yet
Basically they made a pretend unofficial elector vote that doesn't count. It's not news. The actual official electors went the way they were expected. It's over.

I'm hearing the PA and GA legislature sent Republican electors, AZ is having an election integrity meeting, and the investigation in the Dominion SW results are showing massive fraud skewing for Biden. MI legislature is meeting, they'll probably go Republican also. Looking very good for Trump I thi...

If he wants to continue to exist and spew stuff on the margins in right wing media, more power to him. As long as he's out of the main media spotlight, and only occasionally intrudes, like Rush, works for me. Like AO, I am no longer interested. The more off the deep end conspiracy minded he gets, t...

it's not really that much cheaper to manufacture in China than here these days. How do you figure? Labor costs are still massively lower in China, especially when you factor in benefits such as health care and retirement plans. They're not really that much cheaper these days. Look at what wage grow...

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

You can count me as undecided on the minimum wage issue. I can make an argument both ways. I think a minimum wage is kind of a bandaid though instead of a fix. It's obvious that we have an issue with a "wealth gap" in our country that is a problem. It's also obvious that both parties see this gap bu...

I don't know if this has been discussed here already, but there is a nifty tool on https://www.politicalcompass.org/ which will allow you to take a test and see where you place on a graph where the boundaries are Auth/Fascism vs. Anarch/Libertarianism on one axis, and Communism/Collectivism Left vs...

And yet you just keep coming back. Why is that? That depends if you believe there is something wrong with not agreeing. I don't agree with a fair amount of the dogma on this board. It doesn't mean there isn't benefit in reading and considering the well thought out arguments that the other side has....

Re: The New Republican Populism (personal Trump references not allowed)

If minimum wages seriously hurt employment, how do you explain that the US reached some of its best (i.e. lowest) unemployment rates circa 1966-1969 when the minimum wage was at an all time high in real inflation-adjusted (and CPI deflator or NDP deflator productivity-adjusted) terms Empirical resu...

Re: What's Trump's next move?

I think he is going to try to get objections in both the house and senate for the Jan elector count. That will stir up some more drama. Ultimately that will fail though, because even if some state electors go to a vote of confidence, there's no way both house and senate would give a majority vote. B...

I think once Trump is out of the way, if Biden does stick to his plan he will be able to earn the respect of Republican politicians by being willing to work with them and acknowledging their voice and opinion as legitimate. Especially so if he can lead Pelosi to lower her partisan brick wall and ta...

Way way way to short a time frame so far to be a typical accumulation period which runs 25-40 years .....remember we are talking those with decades to go .
