sold off gold and no more TLT at this point . gold may have more to fall . at some point i will buy it back . it shed a lot in gains so i wanted to preserve the bit that was left for 2020 . it fell over 10k in a week erasing a good part of the gains on the portion i still was holding . .

luckily i sold half of it a few weeks ago .

. TLT would have to fall to the mid to low 150's before i rebuy. it has seen one nasty slide since peaking out at the lows in rates .

Do you tell us each time you make these moves? At one point there used to be many more frequent posts from you here informing us. Curious whether your activity has dropped that much or you are just not reporting all the activity.

Thanks

i have cut back on the reporting ..... i think at this point it is not likely much interest as it was ... gold and tlt have only been losing ground .

i am also being cautious in my trading now not doing anywhere near the trades i was ...i think everything can slide a lot at any given moment .

lucky guess buying at yesterdays close .... now the question is whether to sell after todays jump and try to get back in cheaper .

looks like another beating for TLT today . have not owned that in a while ..

based on todays premarket it needs a 13% gain just to get back to its high .

Orders hit ..got 700 shares Tlt at 155.84. And 600 Gld at 171.61 .

Hope I didn’t make a mistake doing this again.

I was hundreds of dollars away from hitting my buy price and all of a sudden Tlt just plunged ....it has since recovered from that wicked drop but it was literally 2 minutes and it just had me down 200 bucks from where I bought .now it is showing up 300 from my buy.....

I hope I get to sell ,things have been awful for Tlt as a hold ...it fell through its 200 day moving average

Tlt sold 1 hour later for 300 bucks gain ...still have Gld

Didn’t want to risk it over night with Tlt ....it very well may pop but the chart looks just awful as well as how it has been sinking

MJ,

Few Q's about HYG:

1. What % of your total port?
2. Are you in it for Dividend or price appreciation?
3. Your long-term plans? Hold indefinitely? Short-term only?

Thanx!

i run a few portfolios , each with differnt goals ... this particular one has high yield at 18% .... i am in it for both the interest and appreciation ... i did very well with fidelity high yield but i wanted to try hyg in that slot .

sphix brought in 40k this year in appreciation.

i have been in high yield over 2 years now ... so it is kind of a core .

All trading of gld and tlt is in my ira ....taxes are of no concern on trading .

I have different amounts for different purposes...

Something like TLT OR GLD I WILL ALLOW HUGE AMOUNTS FOR TRADING ...they can make a long term hold if markets move against me so I typically will go 100 - 500k in each as 2 million would be about half of invested assets if it ended up in the pp.

If it is just individual stocks I will go only about 15k .

Today’s trade in and out of tlt was 270k in each netting about 1550 in two hours

MJ, you’re just bored ;)
Managing around the edges is fun especially in tax-deferred accounts.
The thrill of making +2000 on a trade has worn off when the portfolio moves 10-15x that amount daily.
I see myself wanting to trade more often for the excitement now that I am retired, but have picked up horticulture as an alternative as “flowers” grow with fewer setbacks than my portfolio ;D

The trading is besides my portfolio....I have had days before we toned the models down of 40-50k a day .

But the idea of the trading is being retired I want to average about a days pay if I can a day on average so it is a game ...this week just gold and TLT BROUGHT IN A FEW THOUSAND AND THAT IS IN A WEEK IF I HELD IT IT WAS ACTUALLY DOWN .....

.I don’t break out just the trading gains but overall with about 25% in equities we brought in over 300k in gains and the trading was a good part Heck 300 to 500 a day compounding over a year can be a whole lot of dough if it is consistent enough .....I don’t calculate percentages because we are not only spending down to live but the money is only in for a day at times

So it is a lot of fun , I have hundreds of trades this year from being in lock down so much.

I can post the trading statement if anyone cares what the trades were ......there are very few loses over the year ....any big down. Was generally a portfolio component that was swapped out at the low for a better choice for the ride back .

But I have no problem posting the statement
.
