p.s. saw on fox biz that Disney plans to expand to 10 “anti-gay” countries, like Pakistan.

One concerning trend is that the medical industrial complex seems to be encouraging gender transitions at a relatively young age. The profit motive is HUGE per person.flyingpylon wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 6:31 amTHIS. Adolescence and teen life can be rough, and there has always been an “alt” crowd or a variety of them. But now those crowds are formed around sexuality and gender and there are a lot of very confused kids that are just desperate to find a place to fit in.
I saw womb carrier in the past few days. I don’t suppose “big swinging dick” is acceptable for the other gender- oops, I mean one of the other 23 genders.I Shrugged wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 12:04 pm I read an article about sex, and instead of writing “woman”, they used the term “vagina-haver”. A man was a penis-haver.
No matter, soon those will be deemed offensive and will be replaced.
It seems like we'll need a word to describe "people with penises and testicles" and another to describe "people with vaginas". I'm curious what, exactly, is wrong with using "man" and "woman" as those words...? Why can't a man who likes to wear dresses and makeup not just be a man who likes to wear dresses and makeup?dualstow wrote: ↑Fri Jun 24, 2022 1:45 pmI saw womb carrier in the past few days. lol, that reminds me one time probably 30 years ago, my cousin and my grandmother were at the library and he asked for a book about Unix. I wish I'd been there to see her eyebrows shoot up!
Well, there is this line:
Another leader said the strife has become so destructive that it feels like an op. “I’m not saying it’s a right-wing plot, because we are incredibly good at doing ourselves in, but — if you tried — you couldn’t conceive of a better right-wing plot to paralyze progressive leaders by catalyzing the existing culture where internal turmoil and microcampaigns are mistaken for strategic advancement of social impact for the millions of people depending on these organizations to stave off the crushing injustices coming our way,” said another longtime organization head. “Progressive leaders cannot do anything but fight inside the orgs, thereby rendering the orgs completely toothless for the external battles in play. … Everyone is scared, and fear creates the inaction that the right wing needs to succeed in cementing a deeply unpopular agenda.”

Another great quote that makes you think of this thread’s title:

I'm sure there are plenty of examples of this kind of thinking from many ideologies.
I'm reminded of Zdogg's interview with Daniel Schmachtenberger (still highly recommended: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7aIgHoydP8) where the point is made that if we look at our fellow countrymen as the main problem, then things really can't hold together.
I would also point out that the book you're quoting seems to be largely doing just that.

This guy is amazing. I'm only halfway through it so far. The topic is "existential risk to civilization".

As soon as it ended I started it again for a second listen.
By the way .... does anyone here listen to Lex Fridman?
I discovered him last week and listened to several of his (long, long) podcasts. He is also quite good.
