Gyroscopic Investing

This is a genuine question, not a challenge: Let’s say you wanted to buy or sell a single unit, a gram of gold from one of these “bars” which is actually a thin card of gold. Other than trying to find a reputable dealer, how would you test to make sure that piece is real gold? What tools would be best for that?

I am no expert but have a modicum of knowledge.

1) Weigh the piece of gold.
2) There are some chemicals you can apply to the surface of the gold and silver. You can confirm the presence of precious metals based on the reaction.
3) I've seen machines where people put the gold/silver in a vessel of water, and some kind of measurement done related to density or volume can help confirm.

That's at gold dealers though. Hard to confirm on the spot if you're using the gold to buy groceries in a hyper-inflation world. I imagine that's probably what you're getting at.

P.S. I'm currently fondling my favourite gold pieces... my MapleGrams.

That is what I'm getting at, but those are interesting notes just the same.
Maybe people will just bite the grams like in the old days.

Calipers, a pocket "50/0.001" gram scale and then "bite it" or push a pin into it.
If it passes all three, it's good.

Edit: Ah, I see dualstow was ahead of me. Good call.

These bars are in high demand and I figure they will also be very easy to resell. Plus they are super cool. I think the PAMP multigrams and the maple grams wound actually be more practical in a zombie apocalypse (the imminent zombie apocalypse). I believe the PAMP multigrams are in individual assays and maybe the maplegrams.

I am very biased towards maplegrams myself... but that combibar looks hella cool.

Yes, 3 is the old school "Eureka" method.

I realized one big advantage of stacking combibars is that dealers will be happy to buy them back because they are so popular. That could change but IMO I think they will stay popular.
