Kitco has 1/4 ounce maples for about 10% premium:

Hate to always be the one to mention but...you could buy unallocated gold from the Perth Mint. If you don't want to keep it in that form, you can pay a fee to have it fabricated into coins or bars, then have it shipped to you. Voila.

I'm trying to recall what a reasonable coin premium is under quiet conditions. Look at my transactions log, 3.2% to 3.7% seems to jump out at me. Does that sound right?

Yes, that sounds reasonable for a 1-ounce coin.
Smaller coins have higher premiums, of course.

Since the data breach didn't (ultimately) phase you, that will probably be the way I go when I have the funds. Perth Mint storage.

Is there consensus on whether Perth Mint unallocated gold is preferable to AAAU?

Coronavirus Sparks a Global Gold Rush
Epic shortage spooks doomsday preppers and bankers alike; ‘Unaffordium and unobtanium’
As the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, investors and bankers are encountering severe shortages of gold bars and coins. Dealers are sold out or closed for the duration. Credit Suisse Group AG, which has minted its own bars since 1856, told clients this week not to bother asking. In London, bankers are chartering private jets and trying to finagle military cargo planes to get their bullion to New York exchanges.

It’s getting so bad that Wall Street bankers are asking Canada for help. The Royal Canadian Mint has been swamped with requests to ramp up production of gold bars that could be taken down to New York.
“When people think they can’t get something, they want it even more,” says George Gero, 83, who’s been trading gold for more than 50 years, now at RBC Wealth Management in New York.

And yet, it's not worth $2000.

That depends on what you mean by "worth".
If you can't get it, what is it worth?

I should have said, “priced at $2000.” But, let’s see where we are in June. I say higher.
