Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
It's good to know SDBullion has regular sales, I'll make sure to check them next time I am buying. I'd like to now, after reading about the newest stimulus bill, but I'm quite overweight gold as it is.
You there, Ephialtes. May you live forever.

What’s the benefit of “legal tender?” You can’t use these as cash in a transaction or redeem them for cash at a bank, can you?SomeDude wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 12:45 pmThese are back on sale:

fractional, US mint, legal US tender, collectible variety, about 2% over spot.
It really doesn't get much better.
My first two were the statue of liberty and an eagle.
I'm going to order more today, just not sure how many.

It doesn't make sense to buy gold when I'm flirting with the 35% band.
This is one of the only times that I'd actually wanting to buy the overweight asset. Back when I rebalanced out of stocks, I was only too happy to unload them.

Wow 35% even with the ridiculous (my opinion) run up in stocks?

Well, gold's had a good run recently as well. I also don't auto-reinvest dividends or interest, which skews my results compared to other people.

Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
One thing I've thought of doing is buying low-mintage, graded proof gold from countries other than the United States. There are times when you can get them for close to melt. I wouldn't do it with more than, say, 25% of my gold allocation because these coins are not nearly as recognizable as the common bullion issues. But the low premiums over spot, combined with the possibility of price appreciation, has me tempted.
Does anyone have any thoughts?

Not familiar with the concept. Intriguing.
What are some examples of:
Won't ever be less valuable than spot, might be more valuable at some point.

Can you give any examples? I can't think of any gold product that fits this description. I thought i knew just about every coin out there.geaux saints wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 7:44 pmOne thing I've thought of doing is buying low-mintage, graded proof gold from countries other than the United States. Here is a good example: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/wor ... id-1529612
Same specifications as a UK Sovereign. With patience you can find these close to melt; and look at those mintages!

Cool. Thanks.
Fun to think about. My gut feel is take all of the free options you can get.
But the tradeoff is ease of liquidation.
Seems worth buying a handful if you were going to be buying anyway. Plus, they are gorgeous.

I have some 2 rand coins, not proof though. These are about 10% over spot though. You can get proof eagles for that. Let me see if i can find a quote.geaux saints wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 9:12 pmHere is a good example: https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/wor ... id-1529612

Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
So this is a little over 7% over spot for a proof eagle set
https://sdbullion.com/us-mint-gold-eagl ... andom-year
You have to pony up 3.7k.
I did this about 2 months ago, got a 2010 set. Gorgeous. Great price considering you're get 3 fractional proof eagles and a 1oz

Thanks for the input all. And thank you for the links, Somedude. I'd jump on that if I wasn't poor.

Every Saturday I'll post the 2 or 3 best deals i see on gold.geaux saints wrote: ↑Sun Dec 27, 2020 6:57 pmThanks for the input all. And thank you for the links, Somedude. I'd jump on that if I wasn't poor.
I just pulled the trigger on the 2008 MS69 proof eagle set. Final price was $3,677 with gold ask at 1,907. On 1.85oz that's 4.3% over spot.........on proof eagles. And three of the coins are fractional. That is as good as it gets. Buying those 4 coins separately is probably $150 more.
I would have loved to wait for another pullback on spot price but i think its less than a 50% chance we'll get one. I expect fireworks in DC on the 6th and we could see gold going up a few hundred dollars very quickly.
Or not.
Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
That really is a fantastic deal. I am very tempted. If I run across good deals I’ll add them to this thread as well.
Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
Would love to grab one or two of these:
https://sdbullion.com/2019-25x1-gram-ca ... t-in-assay 6.4% over spot. Great for 1 gram coins.

Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
that WAS a great deal ppnewbie. I checked it minutes after you posted and priced it. Then I checked again 10 min later and it was sold out.ppnewbie wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 1:36 pmWould love to grab one or two of these:

Really an unreal deal for 1 gram sovereign coins. That is gold so small you could actually reasonably barter with it even for day to day items.
Re: Best Deal right now on Gold
I should have jumped on that - I had just purchased an a set of MS-70 1,0.5,.25,0.1 eagles. And thought I can’t do another one so quick. I should have done it. Those go for something like 15 percent premiums. Anyway keep the deals coming if you have them - both of those have been fantastic.

Yup I had just purchased a set of proof MS-69 eagles. Are you a collector?
