Buy gold now?

Post by vnatale » Thu May 18, 2023 10:30 am

Another sign that it may be propitious time to also be purchasing gold?

If so I am getting closer and closer to finally implementing a Golden Butterfly!

The Real Estate sentiment supports The Weird Portfolio.

Vinny

Americans expect gold will beat stocks as a long-term investment, according to a new Gallup poll. “The perception that gold is best has nearly doubled, rising from 15% in 2022 to 26% today. As a result, gold has overtaken stocks for second position.” Real estate is still projected to be the top performing asset, but its lead has fallen: 34% of Americans see it as the highest performer, down from a record-high 45% in 2022.

I’m tempted to buy gold, even if my initial reaction to the price sinking back down below US$2000 was that I should be buying NVDA and AI-related stocks.
Either way, I’m kind of retarded, so do the opposite O0

Yeah, it's such a weird asset. Doesn't shine when it should. These congressional shenanigans should be pushing gold higher. But, then again, I think we all know that it's a manufactured "crisis".

Whenever gold dips below $2,000 that standard cartoon sound effect that connotes disappointment goes off in my head. You know, "wah wah wah wah." In fact, it's become a running joke with me and my wife. "What did gold do today?" "It got beat up" Wah, wah, wah, wah.

I decided in 2022 to lighten up on gold and add some TIPS (held to maturity in tax-deferred). Not in every account but we are diversifying our inflation protection with TIPS & I-Bonds (and stocks). Of course, in the short term TIPS can also go wah, wah, wah, wah.

— totally agree, Barrett.

I think you’re talking about the sad trombone sound.

Does gold have an obligation to shine when people want/expect it to?

It shines when it does. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

During Yankee game rain delays they do play the "Sad Sax".

Oh no... the first sad sax of the year.

Today's Nationals-Yankees game in the Bronx begins in a rain delay

O0 Haha, well, I took Barrett’s “should” to mean when one would think it would shine. Not when we insist. O0

Those are both classics. The Curb Your Enthusiasm melody is another great one for fails.

Yes! ;D
I would point out that all of the music on Curb is bought from the same repository where any show can buy it- but I won’t, lest I use the wrong term and inadvertently summon that angry copyright lawyer/ manchild.

To keep with the baseball theme, Oscar Gamble would say People don’t think gold be like it is. But it do.

Ron Washington would say That’s the way gold go.
