America's first gold rush

Post by annieB »

Georgia,1829.
Visited the Consolidated Gold Mine in north Georgia this week.
Toured deep into the mine shaft and then panned for gold.
No gold in my pan!
Fun visit...

Of course there was a US Mint in Dahlonega, Georga.  Produced gold coins, among others.  The mint mark was "D".  The Civil War ended the mint's production.
