On the topic of "what has Trump done that was good", here's a big one:

https://reason.com/2020/08/21/its-time- ... elehealth/

Reason magazine is very much anti-Trump, so they're very careful not to credit him in this article. However, I remember clearly that it was Trump who signed the executive order to wipe away the regulatory barriers that had been choking telemedicine efforts. The result was a revolution in outpatient medicine, and it will be very hard for the bureaucrats to put everything back into their Pandora's box.

I'm not sure how many Republicans would have done this. For sure no Democrat would ever have signed such an order; they only make new rules, they would never take them away. If Hilary Clinton had been elected, I can only imagine what would have happened with the lockdowns in place and hospital ERs mostly overwhelmed with COVID cases. Literally, no one would have been able to get a doctor visit, unless their doctor was willing to return a phone call. Most aren't because phone calls (pre-executive order) could not be billed, i.e. they were a free service. So without Trump and his executive order on telehealth, there would have been an even more serious lack of routine medical care during the worst of the pandemic, the financial hit to outpatient practices would have been far more devastating, and we would not now have this terrific new way of practicing outpatient medicine.

Well, in another version of whataboutism, the Senate report on President Clinton's "disastrous" response to COVID-19 would be coming out about now.

"The President's overblown, unneeded and yet ineffective steps to combat Covid-19 shall not go unexamind. The untold billions of financial losses and the deaths of almost 1,000 american lives will not go unremarked or unpunished" from a joint statement by the Republican Speaker of the House and Senate majority leader.

If it had gotten as bad as it has, I don't think can say for certain that regulations on TeleDoc wouldn't have been lightened. If nothing else, the Republican legislature sure would have pushed for it, and Clinton IMO likely would have gone along, if for political if not other reasons

Does look like most states have at least temporarily lifted Cross-Stätte licensing restrictions.

It will be interesting to see how much sticks.

If Trump walked on water to save someone from drowning, the Marxist media would report it as "Trump can't swim".
Or maybe they'd report "Trump thinks he's Jesus"

And to complete the skit, Pence would look at him longingly like the second-in-command Illinois Nazi from the Blues Brothers, and proclaim "I've always loved you".

Good times.

Biden insists he will debate Trump after Pelosi remarks
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday said that he would debate President Trump shortly after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested that Biden shouldn’t “legitimize” the incumbent president by participating in debates.

“No. As long as the commission continues down the straight now as they have, I’m going to debate him,” Biden told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell when asked whether he would consider not debating Trump following Pelosi’s comments.

“I am going to be the fact-checker on the stage while I’m debating him,” Biden continued.
"On the stage" seems to imply a live, in-person debate. :o

Trump speech:

--Too long
--Meandering
--I've done more for black people than any president since Lincoln. I just can't get enough of that line. Civil rights act, anyone?
--No bother with social distancing and masks. Whatever you believe on that, that is the government's official position, but then you see people shoulder to shoulder with no masks, yelling and whooping it up. I understand it is maybe to send a wink wink nod nod message, but damn it is brazen to go against everything the rest of your government is telling the American people to do.

And doing it at the White House, I didn't know the "rules" but seems without precedent to hold a campaign/convention rally at government facilities, or at least that's what a lot of the talking heads were saying? And then him turning around saying it's "our house" not "their house." Yikes.

I actually really liked the speeches that were done without an audience and no interruptions from applause.

The fireworks were pretty darn amazing, though. Hope he paid for them and not us.

Didn't it start to sound like the typical "laundry list" State of the Union speech?

Callers of both parties are now calling in to C-Span to give their opinions of what they heard tonight.

Well, either Oregon gets more Trump voters from this insanity,
or the more sane people will leave Portland if possible.

I have seen it before in Detroit.

Oops, not quite right of course. But it's pretty laughable that D's claim the mantle for actually doing anything.

Civil Rights act of 1875...Republican

Civil Rights act of 1957...Republican

Civil Rights act of 1960...Republican

Congressional commission that lead to the 1964 act, Republican. LBJ gets the Democratic glory, but really what he did was break with his own party to do the right thing.

In all cases major opposition by the Democratic Party...of course those guys all switched to the Republican party for which I will always hold Nixon in very low esteem. Barry Goldwater knew better...said they would blow up the party one day. I think he may be right in the end.

Actual real conservatives simply want equality and fairness for all and then everyone succeeds or fails on their on their own merit and hard work, to include corporations.

This article written on the eve of Trump's Inauguration was quite prescient in who he'd be as president.

Vinny

‘He Has This Deep Fear That He Is Not a Legitimate President’

On the eve of the inauguration, Trump’s biographers ponder his refusal to bend his ego to his new office.

By MICHAEL KRUSE January 18, 2017

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story ... ate-214655

"O’Brien: The only things that have kept him awake at night historically are money, sex, food, and revenge. And if you take those things out of the mix, it’s not like he ponders the deeper meaning of life. I don’t think he feels that he’s not up to this task. I think he did at different points during the campaign, and I certainly think on election night, and the first few days after that, you could see a kind of a watering down of his bravado. But that seems to have lasted for about a millisecond. Because I think he now feels like he’s fully in charge and has all the aptitude he needs for the office."

‘No Vacancies’ for Blacks: How Donald Trump Got His Start, and Was First Accused of Bias

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/28/us/p ... .html?_r=0
As usual, that NY Times article is long on allegations and completely lacking in factual evidence that Donald Trump had any hand in that policy.

Of course the reason for having the policy in the first place was not racial animus, but business practicality. Many white tenants at that time did not wish to live near blacks. Yes, that is racial bias, but not by the landlords.

Now let's look at his actual record. Trump's record of behavior in his own businesses and personal life is about as far from racial bias as one could ask. Here are just a few of the things he has done to demonstrate his fairness in that regard:

1. Fighting the local authorities in Palm Beach County to allow him to accept blacks (and Jews) into his country club. Read https://spectator.org/64643_when-trump-fought-racists/ and then tell me he's a racist.
2. Signing a bill to permanently fund the HBCUs: https://apnews.com/c4834e48841d97c5a93312b1bf75302a
3. Championing the First Step Act, which resulted in the release of thousands of mostly black prisoners who were serving lengthy sentences for nonviolent offenses: https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/19/politics ... index.html.
4. Pardoning a number of black ex-offenders and even commuting the sentences of some still in prison. See https://kesq.com/news/national-politics ... e-johnson/ and https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/ ... jon-ponder.
5. Receiving praise from Jesse Jackson: https://nypost.com/2016/08/31/jesse-jac ... s-praises/

I can provide many more examples of how he has not only not been racist but has gone out of his way to fight racism.
What were his motives in:

1) Obama birthism

2) Central Park Five (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-e ... na-n661941)

3) His attacks on black women (https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-a ... on-1209872)

Tech, you should know by now that "racist" has been redefined from "someone who mistreats a person or disapproves of a specific group due to their race, independently of other factors" to "someone whose political views do not meet with our/my approval."

By the latter definition, Trump is most definitely racist. So is virtually everyone on this forum.

Yes, I do know that. The good news is that people are starting to catch onto that scam, so the cry of "racist" is losing its potency.
Better yet, one day if we can reduce the extremity of our political polarization, we'll be eliminating racism at the same time. A two-fer.
