I just applied for a US patent and put the notice up on threemisses.com.

I've worked for companies that made it a point to file as many patents as possible. But I currently work for a company that simply keeps things secret and encrypts/secures code when necessary through hardware means.
I loved the patent bonuses and the recognition, but for keeping IP from getting stolen, keeping it secret seems to work out better.
Not saying it is possible in your case, just wanted to throw my experience out there.
