Well, I might have exagerated a little as to the 50 years of non-use, it's more like ~40. But what's a decade or so among friends? And, 50 (half a century) is such a nice round number; plus, when one has a chance to gore Gore, or is that credit Gore for his wisdom and awesome invention .......Libertarian666 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 11:57 pmYes, I was just being silly.Xan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 10:36 pmHe didn't address when it was invented, just when he started using it.Libertarian666 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 9:57 pmSo you're over 100 years old? DNA has its own language (code), and language requires intelligence. There is no known mechanism by which matter can give birth to information, let alone language. It is unreasonable to believe the world could have happened by chance.

Yes, it was. I still have several Floppy Discs, one may be for CompuServe if you want to try out a New subscription.Libertarian666 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 10:12 amYes, it was. Believe it or not, Compuserve still exists, at least as a web site. I'm pretty sure they don't have the dial-up BBS any more, though.shekels wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 10:28 amI still have several Floppy Discs, one may be for CompuServe if you want to try out a New subscription.Libertarian666 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 10:12 amYes, it was. Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
Seriously??? What on earth is the rationale for that? Is COVID somehow now an STD or something??
Of course here in NYC the restaurants are forbidden to allow customers inside, and there's no indication that inside dining will ever be allowed again - and a hint that this state of affairs will continue for at least another year. (It's just one of our dear mayor's many tactics for killing this city off.) So the bathroom issue is moot here.
Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
Yeah, It's a COVID-19 thing. I'm not 100% sure how closing off the bathrooms does anything to promote public safety when they are allowing people to dine-in anyway.WiseOne wrote: ↑Tue Sep 01, 2020 4:01 pmSeriously??? I mean, isn't closing the bathroom counterproductive? Now customers can't wash their hands...

I'm clocking in at just over 80 Mbps with my new connection. This compares to the 3 Mbps or so I think I was getting over 3G. Total cost of the internet with TV package is like $55 CAD. Not bad as far as Canada goes.

What did you use for your speed test? I'll do the same on mine and report the results.

Showoff! We're lucky to get 20 mbps, with a terrible ping, but that's satellite internet for you.
It's a lot better now that it has been in the past (up to about 18 months ago), so I don't generally complain.

I used to use a dedicated website but it looks like Google now has it as a feature!
Just google "internet speed test" or something along those lines and it should show up.

I remember back in 1998 when we upgraded from dial-up to ISDN. 128kbps, but at least it was the same up as down. Woohoo!

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
50 Mbps here, but we’re paying for 100/100.
The reason I stay is that we never have to call customer service like we did with Comcast.

Yea, that's download/upload. I think that's pretty standard, right? I'm on fiber. If I was wired in it would be 150mb/s, but I'm using a wifi router so I can be upstairs, in the bathroom, out on the deck, upside down, whatever.
You there, Ephialtes. May you live forever.
Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us
Every provider I've ever had has always delivered just a fraction of the upload speed relative to download speed.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 5:32 pm Yea, that's download/upload. Maybe that's more of a Canadian thing? Either way, it makes uploading YouTube videos an all-day affair. That time I uploaded that recording of my stand up set to share on the forum took forever lol.
