Going to buy a house there. I have a budget of about $500,000. For that amount of money you can buy yourself a very decent single family home. That same 500k will barely buy you an apartment here in lower mainland BC, and it would probably be 1 bedroom at best.
My very best wishes that all goes smoothly for you. 8)
Thanks! I'll be posting pictures of the house showings!

I heard a newscaster use ‘prior’ the way Vinny uses it. Ok, ok. I guess it’s a thing.

Just Graduated

Post by Smith1776 »

I wanted to share that my final foray into school has just finished!

I've been taking classes after work on the daily to finish a Diploma in Information Technology and Management from Thompson Rivers University.

Hopefully the actual diploma, like the physical piece of paper, doesn't take months before it reaches my door. I'm moving after all. 8)

Thanks! I've been anxiously refreshing the transcript page daily to see when I can "officially" add the diploma to my LinkedIn/resume lol.

New Gold Case

Post by Smith1776 »

Saw this little container thingy at the hardware store the other day… thought to myself it would make a cool little gold bullion storage case. So I bought it!

I often forget how compact gold bullion is.. in the sense that a sizeable sum of wealth can actually be carried discretely or hidden quite easily.

Yesterday I returned to the library the 10 I'd read. I've also during the same time read some other books on this computer. And, maybe, some others on my iPad.

I usually ONLY read the library books when I am sitting outside in the sun listening to music while I read them.

I did start the 11th. The one on the founder of the John Birch Society.

These are the ten that I read:

Jonathan Lemire The Big Lie
John McWhorter Woke Racism
Ann Wolbert Burgess A Killer By Design
Daniel A. Sjursen A True History of the United States
Deborah Cohen Last Call at the Hotel Imperial
Sarah Weinman Scoundrel

Bill Plaschke Paradise Found
Michael Schur How to Be Perfect
Mark Bowden & Matthew Teague The Steal
Jamie Raskin Unthinkable
Above provided by: Vinny, who always says: "I only regret that I have but one lap to give to my cats." AND "I'm a more-is-more person."

Cool. I want to read that John McWhorter title even though I pretty much got the idea from his substack before the New York Times poached him.

What exactly did the New York Times do to him?

That is an excellent book. It's aimed towards blacks and in the beginning, he states that only he, as a black man, could have written it without getting attacked with the usual attacks and, thereby, having what he has to say 100% discounted.

Of course my beloved C-Span also has another regular series called "Book Notes".

You might be interested in this one.

NOVEMBER 2, 2021
Woke Racism
Columbia University linguistics professor John McWhorter weighed in on race and “wokeness” in America. The Commonwealth Club of California hosted this virtual event.

They hired him, so he had to pause his Substack output.

Yeah I like John McWhorter. I sometimes call myself a John McWhorter Democrat. He's a bit less alarmist about Trump than I am, but otherwise, we're pretty much on the same page - still voting Democrat because the GOP is unacceptable but unhappy about the excesses of leftist, racial, and gender radicalism.

I think his book coming out last year coincidentally marked the high water mark of wokeism and the ascension of anti-CRT overreaction (such as the attempt in Tennessee to band the Ruby Bridges children's book, which I own and is wholly unoffensive).

On a totally different topic, ESPN has a fun article about barefoot kickers and who was really the last true barefoot kicker in the League.

McGriddles from McDonald’s are excellent.

Seconded. Make sure to get the sausage, egg, and cheese one. If you just say "McGriddle" you get no egg and no cheese. Not worth bothering.

I'm guessing next up on the "wonderful" list will be the McRibs. But surely not from a Texan! That would be heretical. ;D ;D ;D ;D
