If you're planning to flee a blue state, don't wait too long

Post by Libertarian666 »

"Fox Business Network anchor Neil Cavuto questioned California State Assemblyman Rob Bonta on "Cavuto: Coast to Coast" Friday over his proposal to institute a 0.4% wealth tax on Golden State residents worth more than $30 million.
...
"Bonta added that his proposal would apply a "phased-in approach" to make sure Sacramento recoups its share of the income of a California resident who leaves the state.

"If you move in Year One, 90% of the tax bill applies..." he said, adding that the following year it drops to 80% and so on until it is phased out to zero."

The guy is batshit crazy if he expects this to stand up legally, and not result in something of an exodus. Crazy proposals are quite frequent in places like New York City and California, but fortunately very few become law.

Notice how the threshold for wealth tax proposals keeps dropping? Elizabeth Warren assured us it was only for wealth of $1 billion. During her and Bernie's primary campaigns, the threshold eventually dropped to $50 million. Now it's down to $30 million. I had guessed that the threshold will ultimately settle somewhere between $2 and 10 million, meaning it will snag quite a number of not spectacularly wealthy people who initially thought they were safe.

No one is safe with communists in control of the government.

Yeah, I don't see how collecting state taxes from someone who hasn't set foot in the state for years can possibly be enforceable. But the simple fact that a state assemblyman thinks it's something he can pull off is sure to chase off even more taxpayers. It's a classic lose-lose political move. ::)

The LA mayor just shut off utilities to a house because people were peaceably assembling there. It's definitely bewildering, there seem to be so many wrong aspects to this, but nobody seems to give a shit. He seems to be comfortable holding press releases and tweeting about it. Tim is thinking about it the right way, as far as trying to convince people who's first reaction might be something like "oh, it's fine, they shouldn't be having parties anyways"
You're never gonna see a politician walk out and say 'I'm going to violate human rights.' It's gonna start with this. Everyone's gonna say 'that's ok'. . . They shouldn't have the ability to arbitrarily shut off someone's utilities.
You there, Ephialtes. May you live forever.

It's ironic that the Left and Antifa and even some moderate Dems keep using the word 'fascist' to describe the other side. But it truly is they who are the fascists.
That's an interesting thought. To extend your thought, it's kind of mind bending to think of each party being in reality exactly what they accuse the other one of being, and each politician being exactly what they accuse their counterpart of being. Like if BLM were a terrorist group and the KKK are really just fighting for civil rights.
It would actually make a good SNL skit or like one of those movies where the characters change places.

That rule goes almost entirely one way. Whatever progressives accuse non-progressives of is exactly what they themselves are guilty of. However, I don't see non-progressives doing the same thing in the other direction.

E.g., BLM is in fact a terrorist group. Marxist terrorists, to be exact: https://nypost.com/2020/06/25/blm-co-fo ... d-marxist/

On the other hand, the KKK is basically nothing these days. I doubt they have 100 members, and you never hear about them even though the left would LOVE to prattle about how oppressive they are.

"Safety for me but not for thee" is the motto of progressives everywhere.
