The US digital dollar

So there has been increasing discussion about a new US digital dollar. I'm just starting to try to understand this subject. Perhaps we can get a discussion going on this.

I've been intrigued by the discussions. I'm looking forward to see how and if it moves forward.

While the digital dollar would certainly not be a replacement for folding money (Or any other truly anonymous transaction) it seems like it could be a large improvement over USD debit cards or other electronic transactions that require a centralized gatekeeper to 'approve'. It is also possible that it would have slightly less tracking information associated with the transaction - maybe making it just a tad more anonymous than a debit card.

I haven't heard anything about what a fee structure would be like - if any.

But it feels like a government run PayPal.


I don't see the need unless it is going to save the government costs which it probably won't.


It sure opens up tons of conspiracy theories on government control.

While I don’t have any evidence that this is what is going on, the digital dollar feels very much like the US Treasury is evaluating bitcoin as a threat and pondering adopting the tried and true Microsoft strategy of Embrace, Extend and Extinguish. Which proved incredibly effective.

One thought that is very positive on this in current cancel culture.
