Hungary burns money to get through winter

Post by smurff » Wed Feb 08, 2012 6:29 pm

Today I saw on the evening news how Hungarians were coping with the bitter winter. They were burning bricks made from their currency.

At first I thought, "geez, talk about hyperinflation and worthless currency, then I searched for more details on online news. Here's what Reuters has to sayhttp://www.reuters.com/article/idUSRTR2XGJ3

Apparently this is a program in place for a long time to recycle worn out banknotes by letting nonprofit orgs burn them for fuel rather than destroy the notes with traditional burning procedures.

Now I find myself saying, "Hmm..."

Btw, since I am posting this via iPod the URL is a mobile URL. To read the article and see the photos of the money bricks, see the article in Reuters regular website.
